Actually I was just joking. :-)

I doubt that we will see Barbarez in Dortmund next summer.

You know I support that move. I think an offensive player with Barbarez' passion and work ethic is exactly what BVB is missing.

That and a speedy central defender, but how long have I been begging for one of those?? ;)

I'd love to bring Barbarez back to Dortmund. Would be a great addition to the creativity front. Is he out of contract after this year, or would we have to stump up a large amount of cash for him?

Out of contract. Free transfer.

So what? They aren't getting him unless we let him go.

True but it might not end up being that simple, keeping in mind that...

a) while they seem to have largely been resolved, he's had problems with van Marwijk at times during this season
b) the offer is coming from a Premiership team based in London that will most likely be playing Champions League football next season
c) while we've successfully shown we won't be lowballed anymore by other clubs, we're still in the 'likely to sell' catagory regarding many of our players
d) he'll also be playing at the World Cup in June, if Switzerland do well or he puts in some good performances then he could start believeing the hype....if he doesn't already.

Personally, I'm in no mood to sell him. While he's been inconsistent this season he seems to have some talent, and the last thing I want to be doing is thinning our defensive ranks going into what could be another long campaign later in the year. Point is, if these reports turn out to be genuine then it might well be Degen's attitude towards the deal that decides the final outcome.

First of all, I didn't say we WOULDN'T sell him. I said they won't get him unless we release him. Just like Bremen being interested in Dede earlier this season and Metzelder now.

They can have all the interest they want. They aren't getting anything unless BVB releases the player.

Remember, a lot of this is Degen confirming he's being watched. He's a kid enjoying the attention.

I heard about this a couple of days ago, but I wasn't posting anything here because it wasn't worth the time we'd spend on it. Not until BVB receives some type of "interesting offer" from Tottenham.

However, "Kubi" saw fit to post it and now that he has, I see he was right to do so.

I should have posted it. I have to realize that just because I don't have interest doesn't mean others won't.

To address your lettered points:

a) Degen's problems with BvM seemed to have been solved since the winter break. Degen has performed consistently well since then and there have been no complaints from BvM either.

b) So what? The player has no say in this matter and neither does Tottenham. Degen can't move because he wants to. He'll only move if BVB lets him go. The player is under contract to us until 2008. And for the record, there is no "offer" yet. They've just scouted him. If Tottenham makes the right offer, I'm sure BVB will talk to them, but until there is an offer, this conversation is useless.

c) What makes you think that? We aren't acquiring these young players just to sell them along. We're trying to build a team capable of winning European places every season. If what you say were the case, we would have sold Sahin to Chelsea before this season started.......

d) What "hype"? He merely got watched. Sure, the kid already has an ego problem. He also saw his problems went away once he put his ego in check.

I still say this is nothing to worry about and it's really too soon to even speculate. It's just a waste of time until Tottenham approaches BVB.

Something that hasn't happened and may not ever happen.

I doubt BVB is in any mood to sell him either. Especially as we don't have a successor for the position. We aren't going to move Kringe there because as you've seen lately, he services the club better from midfield. Metzelder has played that position well in the past, but he's the one I'm worried about actually getting away from us after the World Cup.

BVB might well sell him to Bremen if he decides he wants to go because his contract is up after next season and he can leave free after that.

If BVB extends with Metzelder after the World Cup, then, I can see these Degen rumors heating up again. If we don't extend with Metzelder, even if Tottenham come with an offer, BVB will probably refuse.

If we don't make the UI Cup this season, we're reloading well enough to make a run at fourth or fifth place next season.

And whether he likes it or not, Philipp Degen will more than likely be a part of it.......

Anyone out there care to speculate on what BVB management will do now that the season is over and we have Koller and Rosicky moving away for sure and a possibility of selling Christoph Metzelder if he chooses not to extend with us after the World Cup??

On Degen: After his very nice performance in Munich in the center of defense, I'm almost certain he isn't going anywhere.

Or should we hold off on BVB transfer talk until after the World Cup??

Nelson Valdez of Bremen. What's the latest on him coming to BVB. I heard the commentators talking about it on Saturday during the Hamburg-Bremen match.

I haven't seen anything since the original rumor started. Valdez would like to join BVB and Bremen don't seem to have a problem with it for the right price. I think BVB just have to offer them the right price.

I think the holdup is that the season just ended and BVB will wait to see what Metzelder wants to do.

I think if Metzelder won't extend with BVB, you will possibly see a trade with Bremen. Metzelder for Valdez.

Alexander Frei is for sure leaving Rennes according to an interview in Le Matin. He already said bye to everybody in the club... In theory going to Dortmund but nothing is yet signed since Rennes and Dortumd need to agree on the money.

btw, Frei came back from injury and just scored 2 goals in his last game for Rennes.

I can not wait until you guys see him play for Dortmund. You will see how much he will bring :) Not only goals but lots of decisive passes...

Frei isn't "for sure" leaving anyone according to this story. He's begging Rennes not to block a move to Dortmund.

And I don't know that I want a guy who will tell his club, "I can't see turning up for training next season." when he's still under f#cking contract.

PARIS (AP) - Switzerland striker Alexander Frei wants to join Borussia Dortmund and hopes Rennes does not stand in his way.

"I want to join Borussia Dortmund," Frei told France Football magazine on Tuesday. "I have an accord with Borussia and they now have to reach an agreement with Rennes."

Frei, has scored 46 league goals in 100 games for Rennes over the last three seasons.

"I hope the (Rennes) directors will not make this difficult," Frei added. "I can't see myself turning up for training next season. Let's part as good friends."

Btw, Barbarez will most likely move to Leverkusen. They have plenty (Berbatov-) money to spend and seem to have laid out the best bait.

So it is still Valdez and/or Frei coming to Strobelallee. I still think that Frei is too expensive. Rennes want 7 Mio Euro and I wouldn't spend more than 4 Mio. Valdez is valued between 3 and 4.5 Mio and again I think 4.5 Mio is just too much money.
