Take whatever is offered? Within reason I agree, but if it starts dipping below 10 million then you have to take into account whether or not it's financially advantageous to sell a player far below their worth. True, Rosicky's said he wants out, but as long as BVB are not in a relegation scrap and are legitimate contenders for Europe (which they are at the moment) the situation does not become as necessary. Once you take away the playmaker it is hard to replace. If a serious dip in form coincides with the departure of a player the losses will mount and that monetary gain would be negated within a season or two.
Athletico Madrid tabling 10 million is a low valuation in my opinion but not too low as to completely undermine Dortmund's plan. I tend to think that the 10 million price tag will still be low enough for the bigger clubs to remain interested. Athletico Madrid will not be his only suitors before or after the World Cup. The mania that always accompanies a deal deadline always brings out offers some clubs really shouldn't be making and a World Cup year even more so.
Dortmund are in a better position than most, with the huge and loyal fanbase and the better than average youth system, but these will not save the club from losses down the road if the amount of money received from the star's sale is not enough to cover the loss of revenues that accompany his departure.
You lost me with a lot of that.
Please know that BVB have already promised Rosicky he can go if they get an "acceptable" offer for him.
BVB will keep that promise.

I assume you mean the Ballack situation. Ballack hasn't made any unreasonable demands of Bayern.
Nah, I'm just talking in general. And not just soccer, but any sport in general. With regards to Ballack, I wouldn't say he specifically is being unreasonable, but he needs to come to a decision one way or the other, or it starts to become a distraction (not that its hurt them so far however).
I was with you until the final sentence. I just don't know how you meant taking "whatever AM offers"??
Didn't mean it literally, just saying that its a difficult situation if the AM offer is the only one. Without any other clubs involved in the bidding, the offer is more likely to stay low, and will make it tougher to negotiate. Of course it'll also depend on whether AM makes other offers for similar players as well. Not that any of that is new information, of course.

AM's original offer was 7M. I don't think they'll go higher than ten. That's just "guaranteed" money.
Here's the potential problem though: what if Rosicky has a terrible World Cup and BVB can't even get that much for him afterwards? I know that obviously there are a lot of "what if's", but there are gambles involved with selling a player before a major tournament, just as with selling him after.
I guess its all sort of a big game of chicken...

Just remember this. There are potential problems with crossing the street at a green light too.
Let's not overanalyze this thing. It's actually pretty simple.
The major thing we have going for us is that he's under contract until 2008. We are doing this to accomodate the player's wishes. Again, I think we don't want to wind up like Bayern, who are going to get nothing for their best player should he decide to leave.
From what I understand, the deal the club has with Rosicky is if we receive an ACCEPTABLE offer for him, he can go.
BVB can simply tell him any offer under 10M is "unacceptable".

I think the boy will be fine as long as he doesn't go hunting with Dick Cheney. ;)

Hopefully it works out that way. Anything in the 10-12m range is plenty good in this market.

Or begins to draw political cartoons concerning the World Cup.....

I get the feeling someone will come in with an offer closer to 15M if he keeps up his current form. Man U. could use him in the center, but I don't think they are interested.
YET.......

Man United are looking for a CM, but someone a little more defensively oriented. Sir Alex prefers to have Park or Fletcher in that attacking position (especially as Scholes' career could potentially be over), and we're even playing Rooney as an attacking mid with Saha in form. I had actually proposed him as a good solution, but the "Keane replacement" is where the money needs to go this summer.
Arsenal were rumored and would probably be a good fit, but they also need a box-to-box CM. Plus I thought I read somewhere that Rosicky didn't want to go to England, but maybe I'm confusing him with another player.

I'm not particularly high on Fletcher. Park is a hard worker and better suited for the Premiership than Rosicky in my opinion. I really like Park.

I've never heard Rosicky rule out England though I think the Premiership game would kill him. Why wouldn't he want to go to the Premiership? After all, it is arguably the "glamor league" in Europe these days.
I think the Arsenal rumors were before they bought Hleb. Why would Arsenal want Rosicky when Rosicky and Hleb are essentially the same player?

I'll refrain from commenting on Fletcher, mainly because we've had many, many arguments on him in the Man United forum.

The appeal of England has definitely increased, although some players don't like it because of the physical nature of the league and the weather. Rosicky though doesn't strike me as a player who would back down from either one, so its possible I just imagined the quote. I think Rosicky would do better in England than in Spain... but you appear to feel otherwise.
I *thought* the Arsenal rumors were fairly recent, like in January, but again I could be wrong. Hleb has been a mixed bag for them, but he is a similar player. I guess we may not hear any real news on the situation until the summer.

I don't mind discussing Fletcher. I'm just not personally high on him. I don't think he 'sucks' either, but I hope he isn't being counted on to play major role in Man U.'s future.

I think Rosicky can't take the pounding that's allowed in the Premiership. He's had injury woes throughout his time in Dortmund and the Bundesliga isn't half as rough as the Premiership.

Thinking again, I believe you are right, but I put no stock in those Arsenal rumors.

Ah, then we agree on Fletcher. Good player, hardly great though.

Yeah true, though I was thinking more about his style of play. If his injuries are down to him not being tough though, then it might not work out. Of course some guys also have bad luck. I don't personally remember the specific incidents that led to his injuries.

Guys, speculation is that if Bayern signs Lukas Podolski after the season, they'll let Claudio Pizarro go for a decent price.
Any chance we'll bite??

I know you're kidding, but the rumor I hear from others, no real source, is that if Bayern signs Podolski, they'll get rid of Pizarro, not Santa Cruz. That doesn't really make sense to me on the surface, but it is well known that Pizarro isn't a "happy camper" when he's on the bench regularly and if they get Podolski, Pizarro will have his ass nailed to the bench, won't he??
I honestly don't think Bayern would sell Pizarro to Dortmund. After all, all Dortmund are really missing at this moment is a dangerous striker and a midfield chief......... :o

It's just a rumor. Not even from a good source. Just things other fans are talking about.

AFAIK Bayern want to extend with Pizzaro till 2010 (current contract till 2007). Maybe if he doesn't want to sign a new contract with Bayern they want to get rid of him and so cash in at least some millions.
Still I can't believe they would do that.
