Always love meeting another raisin bran eater. You're actually behind me in the day though. I ate breakfast at 7:30 and have already done a 2 hour shift at work. You gotta keep up sapph. ;)

You gotta keep up sapph. ;) :cool:I know, I know. I usually wait a couple of hours before I eat, and then go jogging right after breakfast, or uh, brunch, or whatever you want to call it. One of the perks of still being a student is no grown-up schedule; I can jog in the middle of the day. Woohoo! Eat that, post-graduates, with your "jobs", and your "running cars" and your homes with "sound-proof walls" ;)

Just passing this along:

Guinness ice cream

Makes 1 quart

1/2 vanilla bean, split lengthwise

1 cup whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

2/3 cup Guinness stout

2tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons molasses

4 egg yolks

1/3 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. In a medium saucepan, scrape in the vanilla bean seeds. Add the pod, milk, and cream. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Turn off the heat, cover the pan, and let the flavors infuse for 30 minutes.

2. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan over medium-high heat, whisk together the stout and molasses. Bring to a boil and turn off heat.

3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk the yolks, sugar, and vanilla extract. Whisk in a few tablespoons of the hot cream mixture, then slowly whisk in another 1/4 cup of the cream. Add the remaining cream in a steady stream, whisking constantly. Pour the mixture back into the saucepan.

4. Stir the beer mixture into the cream mixture. Cook the custard over medium heat, stirring often with a wooden spoon, for 6 to 8 minutes or until the custard thickens enough to coat the back of the spoon.

5. Strain the mixture into a bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight. Process the custard in an ice cream maker according to the manufacturer's instructions.

You cut me deep, Vermont. :)

I'm sorry. I was a bit jealous at the general lack of structure in your typical day. Again, I hope things work out with your husband soon. Now about that lesbian experience you had in college ...

Thanks for the input peeps, didn't think I'd be getting diet advice out of this thread and whilst I'm here I might as well expand a little (hopefully not the waistline ;) ).

I'm a big lad who comes from a big family and when we get together it kind of looks like a white version of the Klumps. When I was about 18 or 19 I was about 300 lbs and decided that I needed to shift the weight. I ended up doing something similar to what Sapphire was doing and eating 1000 calories a day but at the same time I was cycling 20 miles a day which according to the calorie burner thingy was burning 600 calories. I lost 120 lbs inside six months doing this, which I suppose is pretty extreme.

Since then it's just gradually been going back on and I haven't exercised for a few years and now at 27, back up to my highest weight ever (310 lbs as of Sunday) I decided it needs to be done again. The problem is that I really can't be bothered to exercise just yet so thought I'd consume even less calories for the time being. Probably a stupid plan but hey, that's my situation.

As for Lindsey Lohan, lol, I think I've got a long way to go before I look like that but I'll mull over everything you guys have said and probably settle on something not quite so severe.

I'm not one to talk, cuz I'm well over weight myself but I went through a similar dramatic weight loss period as yourself a few years ago. One tip for keeping the calories down if you can be bothered is having a fruit or two for lunch and if you are still hungry... carrot sticks... I know I know, its so pre-school, but I promise you if all you have left to eat is carrot you wont want to eat anything else :D

oh... I plan on taking my weight by the scruff of the handles soon too... Going to use my revolutionary calorie burning system... do 10 push-ups whenever no one is looking about 5 or 6 times a day which isnt alot when you first think of it, but after a while it adds up. And the 2nd bit is playing footie whenever possible... I'm one of those people who can't run alone or do the treadmill or indoor bike... its just waaaay too boring.

Trying to get in shape? Keep it as simple as humanly possible.

Food. 1800 calories, give or take, no need to count though. Nuts, greens, dairy, eggs, lean meats, peanut butter, whole grains, berries, olive oil... all the stuff they mention on the news. Eat 5-6 times a day, smaller meals more often.

Exercise. 3-4 times a week, 30-45 mins each session. Mix cardio and weights. Eat something right after your workout.

One day a week, pig out. Eat pizza, wings, steak, etc.

Anything more complicated than that and I can't possibly stick to it. :D

You got it Achtung. Eating more often works wonders, just try not to stuff when its available. I've lost 12 pounds in about since October (which is not alot, but considering I'm a college student then again..) by exercising several days a week and eating better.

My favorite diet is to eat all the same foods as usual, but only half the old portions.

To get this back on track. Last night dinner a chicken gyro small greek salad and a bottle of red Rioja.. Breakfast a golden delicious apple and a large coffee with one sweet and low. Lunch whole wheat bagel with turkey and alpine lace swiss and dijon mustard and a large bottle of Poland Springs water...
