Lehmann at it once again... one soap opera ends (Days of Our Willy), another begins (As the Keepers Turn)...

I think that Klinsman is making a mistake by sticking to Kahn as the GK for the world cup. If you remeber back in 1994, Ilgner was the first gk and kopke was the second gk. At the time, even though Kopke was much better that Ilgner, Vogst decided to stick with Ilgner just becouse of his past performances(see Italy 90 and Sweden 2002).Ilgner was a disaster in the game against Bulgaria.
In 1998, even though Kopke was past his prime and Kahn was in better shape, Vogst decided to stick to Kopke becouse of his performance in England 1996. Kopke was a disaster against Croatia in the semifinals.
I feel that Hildebrand should be the GK for Germany in the WC. I think Kahn will cause another disaster.
Thats just my opinion :)

I respect your opinion and agree with everything you said except on who should replace Kahn. I think it should be Lehmann. I thought Lehmann should have been the Germany keeper at Euro 2004.

But if both were to be dropped, I'd then say Germany #1 should be Enke and after him, Weidenfeller.

I've said this on other threads before, but mark my words, if Klinsmann remains the Germany coach, in two years' time, Hildebrand won't even be in the Germany setup. Not unless he goes to Bayern to replace Kahn. Not just because he would be at Bayern, but because that Stuttgart defense looks like it's just going to get worse.

I think Hildebrand is good, but also severely overrated. I think the press made Hildebrand because of that Stuttgart defense, not anything special HE actually did on the pitch.

I don't think Hildebrand is as good as Enke, Weidenfeller or when he's fully recovered, Wiese. I believe Hildebrand largely benefitted from a strong Stuttgart defense. Now that he's facing more shots, his flaws are being exposed.

And even if Wiese can't move like he did before, he has a strong Werder defense in front of him. Weidenfeller has been putting up great numbers even with a s#itty BVB defense (Which will get younger next season) in front of him and Enke has just been the best so far this season for Hannover 96.

I'm not saying Hildebrand "sucks". On the contrary. As I said above, I think Hildebrand is good, but I just don't think he's one of the top three German keepers in the Bundesliga and if you add Lehmann (English Premiership) into the mix, that puts Hildebrand even further behind in my book.

But as I've stated, I feel if Klinsmann remains Germany coach, going into Euro 2008, the three men fighting for Germany #1 will be Enke, Weidenfeller and Wiese. I feel this way because unlike Vogts, Ribbeck and Voeller, Klinsmann doesn't let the German press pick his team.

And I really dislike Kahn. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, what exactly did Lehmann say this time that wasn't true??? :D

That made me laugh, but I also believe what Lehmann said about the way the two leagues play the game will come to pass.

Who would know better than he?

I think most of us know the Premiership is a much faster and rougher game than the Bundesliga version and it just might hurt England at the World Cup.

Time will tell, but I thought that was a very good observation. :)

Don't know... don't really care honestly... I am just tired of these two battle-axes making something out of nothing. See some of us just tend to make emotion, glib comments on occasion... without thought... I being quite guilty of that. ;)

AND... I completely agree with you (*GASP*) LOL... I think Germany should leave them both in the dust and take a younger keeper. (a) this shite is old as are Lehmann and Kahn, and (b) there are some really talented keepers out there. Your boy at Dortmund was MOST impressive when we last saw him.

Btw, what has ever happened to Timo???!!! His name seems to have fallen off the radar.

Besides... I think it is high time Germany has a keeper that doesn't sport a camel-toe in the net... I mean, come on guys... I bloody high is your waste line!! :D LOL...

Along with Stuttgarts....

As for the WC and our keepers, forget about Klinsman adding young keepers so close to the tournament. Don't worry, it'll all change after it.

Kahn is Germany's #1 in 2006. I stand for nothing less. Hildebrand or Wiese in Euro 2008. Lehmann can kiss my red and white ass.

kahn is number one. lehmann will and should never be .
when has lehmann ever done anything good in his career, he sucks as a goal keeper. i have never seen him do anything special not even once except probably when he fought his teammate( amoroso) a couple of years ago.
fock lehmann.

Umm.. he was a crucial part of Schalke's UEFA cup win in 97. He came up huge in the final against Inter.

He's a total asshat, he has lapses of bad play, but when he's on, he's still a very good keeper. He's also had a very good year @ Arsenal thus far.

Still, I think Kahn should be #1 for the WC.

what happened to that yves eigenrauch guy? i thought he would be the next great german defender after he dominated ronaldo in that final? he went completely off the radar quite suddenly...

another guy who was touted as being a top star and 'one for the future' but completely disappeared again was this guy named passlack... anybody remember him? or has it been too long ago and did i get his name wrong? i think his first name was stephen... he was supposed to be a superb passer of the ball, but never really made that step up in the late 90s...

or were both these guys victims of paranoia and expectations from the german fans desperate for players to take up the mantle emptied by the previous generation - klinsmann, matthaus, brehme, buchwald, koller, etc?

Eigenrauch retired after 2002. He was a good solid defender for Schalke, but not spectacular. That game against Inter (which was actually in the 97-98 UEFA cup quarterfinals (where Schalke lost) was possibly the game of his life though. He became an activist in the Green party afterwards.

Stephan Passlack was the name! (That's a blast from the not so distant past..)
He played a few games with the NT, but I don't recall him standing out. But my memory of him is sort of fuzzy. Though, I do remember he was on my team in FIFA 98, and in the video game world he was a monster defender!:D

Fock you. Amoroso deserved the shoving Lehmann gave him in that match.

When has Lehmann ever done anything good in his career?

The man has won the UEFA Cup and been to a UEFA Cup Final, won a Bundesliga title, won a Premiership title and was Arsenal's hero in last year's FA Cup final.

Word of advice. Don't talk about s#it you obviously know nothing about.

Oh how I enjoyed that conflict between Jens and that scumbag Amoroso....I hope his career falls down the drain at Milan.

You're right by the way but let's not get too aggressive. Leave that to Jens :D

These are the prestigious German boards remember? ;)

Congrats, tell Lehman to give us a call when he wins the Champions League. If you want to go through Kahn's honours, we can, but my fingers will get very tired.

Who was comparing him to Kahn in this situation?? I responded to a writer who tried to slam Lehmann with idiotic rhetoric, not comparing him to Kahn.

Maybe you should read before firing off.....
