Hopefully this will be the last thread for this month, and then we'll just open a general transfer thread afterwards.

Round-up

Vidic and Evra brought in.

"We will be making one or two very big signings in the summer, but the players we want are playing in the Champions League, so we will have to wait." - Gill (http://www.manutd.com/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=295464&itype=466&icategoryid=120)

Potentially a £35 million transfer kitty. (http://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/sport/football/manchesterunited/s/198/198975_fergie_set_for_spending_spree.html?rss=yes)

Main names linked for a January move are De Jong and Gravesen.
Main targets for the summer include Diarra/Gattuso and 'Ballack'.
Man Utd have also been linked to Raul Garcia, Riki and Ronaldo ().
Player heading out hopefully include Silvestre, O'Shea, Miller and Bellion.
Players we would like include Sneijder and Vicente.

I think/hope that covers it.

Nice, nearly 500 posts summed up in 50 words or less (with no bickering).

Since our targets are currently playing in the CL, that's good news on the Gattuso/Ballack fronts. Not so good news for those who want Vicente (count me among them).

Does anyone know the injury situation with Fortune? Im sure if he can get back to fitness soon, he could raise his stock with some games before the transfer window opens in the summer. I heard he isnt happy with his current contract situation.

I think that if we Sell Mikael Silvestre, to Lyon, we could use him in a swap deal with some cash, if we are going for Diarra.

Benni I know you're a little fragile so I'l start by letting you know I'm not attacking you8 directly... Who gives a flying ******** about that non issue Fortune being unhaoppy with his contract situation.. What has that perrnially injured non talent done to deserve a better contract let alone any contract at all...

Now that would be a good idea if we could trick Lyon into thinking Tweety has any value...

Just trying to determine a range of value, which we could sell him for in the summer.

Silvestre would do well with a team where he didn't have so many opportunities to screw up. Tweety does well but when he's regularly tested he has a problem..maybe he relaxes too much or tries too hard. Essentially, he needs a very simplified role to be successful.

Sitting on the bench is pretty simple

meh... I think you are being hard on Fortune... he proved himself prior to this season. He's been a good squaddie who played well when asked and although he was a CM by trait when he got here he played LM and LB - and was for a time our only option at LB when O'Shea was playing like he is now, but SAF didn't know he had a Scottish grandmother.

Manchester United have renewed their interest in Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso, according to reports in Italy.

Having given up on Bayern Munich’s Michael Ballack, it seems that the Red Devils – whose chief executive David Gill has been spotted in Milan recently – have identified Gattuso as the ideal replacement for Roy Keane, who left for Celtic recently.

Some reports on Wednesday suggest that United could offer Ruud Van Nistelrooy as part of the deal to sign Gattuso.

Yummy... that would be a great midfield delight... Gennaro t'tuso (think General T'so)

I'd be really happy if we landed him, that would make alot of things easier as far as shape and transfers go.

We'd know for sure that we have the DM position sorted and that we could concentrate on a winger.

EDIT:
and now I read that some are saying Ruud would be used as a makeweight? Never... I guess its not legit then.

Id really want a two way midfielder, instead of a pure defensive midfielder.

Everyone says a two-way, well thats fine, I'm sure Gattuso can change his game a little bit to fit that description. The man is a world class player and not a bad passer, there is no reason why he would not be a two-way midfielder. As it stands in Milan his has 2-3 other midfielders that he HAS to backup in the centre of midfield therefore he stays back, wouldn't be that way here.

Well, we're a private company now and we don't have to announce to the world our interest in a player months before we deal for him :)

Gattuso will do for the time being but we'll need a replacement for Scholes within the next 2 years or so, preferably earlier.

I haven't given up on Ballack yet. Alex may merely be bluffing in saying he has no interest in him. I'm wearing my optimistic hat today ;)

He is just as good as Darren Fletcher.

edit: And tell me then, who is a two-way mid that you all would like? Diarra? Ballack? Who else? Gerrard? I mean, how many are there in the world right now.

I assume this is in reference to G.I. Gattuso.

He's short, has a beard, has techincal abilities, is afraid of no living creature on this planet, and could possibly make even Wayne Rooney say "this guy has some anger problems"

Why did you bring up Darren Fletcher?

Gattuso never struck me as a smart player. Ive seen him play every week since the Serie A started, and he is a good player. Would be a good aquisition for us. But I think we would need another midfielder to compliment him. Apart from Scholes, who would partner him in the midfield?
