MANCHESTER UNITED team-mates Ruud van Nistelrooy and Cristiano Ronaldo were involved in a furious bust-up at the club's training ground yesterday.

The pair clashed at the club's Carrington complex during training and were immediately summoned to boss Sir Alex Ferguson's office to explain themselves.

It is understood the row related to Ronaldo's sending-off in United's 3-1 derby defeat to Manchester City at the weekend.

Van Nistelrooy is understood to have been furious with Ronaldo for his lunge on Andy Cole, which left United with 10 men.

Sources claim van Nistelrooy accused Ronaldo of showing a "selfish" attitude in getting sent off.

There has been growing discontent among senior United players at Ronaldo's attitude of late, many feeling the 20-year-old has become too self-indulgent.

Fergie was said to be angry with both Ronaldo and van Nistelrooy for rowing in front of team-mates and shocked backroom staff.

Can this season get any worse? This really shocks me because always read that Ron & Ruud were tight. Just goes to show how frustrating this current campaign must be on the players.

Rudd and Ronaldo are pretty hot. I like ManU's new practice uniforms.

Yep, apparently Ronaldo did a neato Ali style shuffle before launching his fist miles over Ruud's head. Whereupon Ruud spun around and punched him right in the face from an impossible angle.

They need to grow up but at least Ronaldo's excuse is that he's still a kid. Whats married man Ruuds?

What's married have to do with anything? Make a point of Ruud being 29 ( shite I just realised Ruud is almost a year younger than me) and maybe you've got something.. But the fact he's married is completely irrelevant to the discussion...

Perhaps he feels that 2 and half years has been more than enough time for Ronaldo to start paying dividends, so to speak.

Especially if those are the new home and away kits.:D

Someone like Ruud probably wouldn't have a lot of patience with the end of his career closer than the beggining. I mean he's not ready to wheeled out but he might only have 4 -5 years left with 2-3 being in good form. He wants players to make good decisions and that was poor.

Im not shocked in hearing this. Personally, I dont think this will get blown up. I think they will end up the best of friends and have an uncanny understanding on the pitch, and Ronaldo starts producing, and Ruud continues to bang in the goals....

I mean, teammates are always unhappy with eachother, but for the sake of team spirit, they put there differences aside, and get it done on the pitch.

Agreed... Didn't Ruud and Rio have a blowout on the pitch a few months ago.. Do you hear anything about it anymore..

Does anyone else think this might lead to Ronaldo's exit? I know he signed a contract extention, but being a hostile teammate does nothing but highlight his bad season. Hopefully he'll improve (at our club).

but being a hostile teammate

is it me or does every report of the incident suggest that ruud started the whole thing by accusing him of certain things?

As much as I love Ruud he's got to grow up... While ronaldo's actions hurt the team Ruud's got no place getting in his face about it because Ruud is the MASTER of petulant or revenge type tackles, often when the defender who fouled/dispossesed him has already passed the ball.
