Samaras waiting for agreement

Georgios Samaras' father has revealed that the Heerenveen striker has agreed a deal with Manchester City.

Heerenveen revealed on Monday that Stuart Pearce's City had expressed interest in the forward, with the Dutch outfit suggesting a deal could be concluded swiftly.

The striker's father Giannis has told skysports.com that he is just waiting for the two clubs to agree a fee for his son.

"There is an agreement between Manchester City and Georgios, but we have to wait for the agreement between the two clubs," Giannis Samaras told skysports.com.

"Today (Monday) there were talks between the officials of the two clubs. Manchester City made an offer to Heerenveen of €7.5 million (£5.1 million), but Heerenveen ask for €10 million (£6.85 million)."

Samaras is excited by the prospect of a move to Eastlands, but is aware his hopes could be dashed.

"We are in hard negotiations with City," added Giannis Samaras. "We will have another meeting tomorrow.

"Georgios is very satisfied with the potential move to City.

"He considers it as a step forward in his career.

"For the moment he is concentrated on Saturday's game and he is waiting for the decision of the two clubs."

Heerenveen are holding out for the best possible price, having recently sold Klaas Jan Huntelaar to Ajax, and their stance has angered the player.

Samaras is reportedly ready to take legal action in order to secure a move and the courts could have a say in whether Pearce lands his man.

Manchester City are reported to have tabled a new offer for Heerenveen striker Georgios Samaras.

Reports suggest City have made a new improved offer for Greek forward after having their initial bid rebuffed.

City made a first offer of €7.5 million (£5.1 million) for Samaras, but it was rejected as Heerenveen are thought to be holding out for €10 million (£6.85 million).

Everton have also been linked with Samaras, but the Goodison Park outfit are not thought to have made any approaches for the player.

Stuart Pearce is keen to sign the highly-rated Samaras and is thought to have tabled an improved offer of €8.5 million (5.8 million) in a bid to land the player.

Samaras is determined to make the move to Eastlands and is already thought to have agreed on terms with City.

City are now waiting to see if their latest offer will be accepted by Heerenveen as they look to push through a deal as soon as possible.

Good news if the deal goes through but im worried about Fowler, but it already looks like he is on his way out of Man City sadly.

City in Samaras stalemate
By Gerrit van Leeuwen - Created on 26 Jan 2006

Manchester City transfer target Georgios Samaras looks likely to remain at Heerenveen.

The Dutch outfit rejected an initial offer of €7.5 million (£5.1 million) for the highly-rated forward, believing him to be worth much more than that.

City boss Stuart Pearce returned with an improved bid, but Heerenveen are still less than impressed.

The Greek star is becoming increasingly desperate to seal a move to England, and is frustrated with his club's refusal to compromise.

There is now a fresh argument about the player's wage demands, prompting the Dutch FA to launch a commission looking into the whole saga. By the time anything is resolved, it could be too late for a deal to be done in January.

In the mean time both parties are doing their utmost to persuade the other that they are right. Samaras will argue that Heerenveen should not stand in the way of his opportunity to play in The Premiership, while the Dutch club will point out that they are in Europe and City are not.

Looks as if we are going to sign him, then it will be in the summer rather than this transfer window. The main issue is that since Heerenveen are playing in the UEFA Cup, Samaras is worth more but if we try and sign him in the summer, it looks as if Heerenveen will not be in Europe next season so his value will probably decrease. If Heerenveen don't qualify into Europe this season then the Dutch FA will probably allow Samaras to leave the club for the amount City have bidded him for (apparently £5.1 million). There will also be more chance of signing him if Man City qualify for Europe this season. So we could just wait to buy him until the summer, and put forward a pretty large bid for an experienced midfielder like Danny Murphy or someone.

City seal Samaras swoop
By Tom Adams - Created on 30 Jan 2006

Manchester City have completed the signing of Greek striker Georgios Samaras from Heerenveen for £6 million.

The 20-year-old, who has attracted interest from Arsenal in the past, completed a medical on Monday and has now joined Stuart Pearce's side.

City's bid to sign the highly-rated forward was a drawn out affair having had their opening bid rejected as the Dutch outfit held out for a higher fee.

However Samaras took his club to a tribunal whilst also refusing to train, and Heerenveen relented in their desire to keep hold of the youngster.

Samaras fills the boots of Liverpool signing Robbie Fowler, but will be hoping to have a more sustained impact on the first team reckoning at Eastlands - with both Darius Vassell and Andy Cole currently in favour.

After the capture of Albert Riera, Samaras becomes the second player to move to City in the January transfer window, and news of his arrival will come as a boost to a club rocked by Joey Barton's transfer request.

The striker is awaiting international clearance before joining the squad to face Newcastle on Wednesday.

Samaras will be in the squad for the Newcastle game, although he may have to settle for a place on the bench this game.
