Apparently the lad turned down overtures from both Valencia and more importantly, Juve to resign with us!!

Have to admit to being impressed, because I've stated in the past that I don't expect this kid to be at United past a certain age. I just hope he's not planning to serve out his 'apprentiship' with us and then ******** off as the finished article to Spain.

For now though credit to the lad for sticking it out in a tough environment where he gets tons of stick for his play and is looked upon as a bit of a jester rather then a solid contributor to the team. It shows admirable will to stay here under the conditions he has faced. I only hope we bare the fruits of our labour with him...

Angelina Ballerina is poo anyway. No decent club would want him.

You do realise that 'Juve' is short for Juventus, right Colin... ?

Bless your heart, you're still drunk from the win on saturday, right? It's kind of sweet.

Maybe the kid is thinking twice now..with the news he is to serve a three match ban for the 'red'

Appeal is in the works though, right?

Yep. We've already appealed, the hearing is on Tuesday. The time off would do him good...but we need him for the pool game.

From the MEN comments page:

This appeal hasn't a hope. The only chance Ronaldo had of escaping a ban would have been to actually make contact. At knee-height. With all his weight behind it. Then he wouldn't have even got a yellow card. Providing, of course, he played for Chelsea, and was called Michael Essien. Then they'd bend the rules to make sure he didn't get a ban. Or even get sent off in the first place. As it is, we're stuffed.

i always found it funny that people doubted his loyalty while claiming rooney was going to retire at manchester.people dont even know them personally and they make assumptions.ronaldo's not the type to go kissing badges, he never kissed his own NT's shirt for that matter, to "show" his loyalty.i'm not surprised.i only think some mancs will be disappointed since they want him to leave asap

I've never wanted Ronaldo to leave. The reality is that a player like him, who is Iberian, will always have overtures from the Spanish league where people will appreciate and love his style a lot more than the masses who watch EPL football. Also the climate and general familiarity of Spain has to be considered. Manchester is totally, totally different in every aspect to where Ronaldo grew up. The logical and natural conclusion would be for him to go to Spain or Italy at some point. That's got nothing to do with loyalty imo. Just a gamble you take when you displace a young one. I would still be amazed to see Ronaldo here until he retires.

Rooney is not latin, his home is England. 45miles down the road from where he plays his football. He adores united...so much so he had a subsription to MUTV before he even played for the club... the likelyhood of him being here for as long as we can afford him has to be 3fold of that which stands for Ronaldo.

No doubt, there are SOME mancs who don't like Ronaldo and want him to leave. I think you'll find that MOST mancs tend to get frustrated by his play at times because we see his potential and are just impatient with him. He lets himself down at times as well, just as Rooney does, and we're just as disappointed when our team suffers needlessly either way.

is it me or was rooney a self confessed boyhood everton fan? and i thought supporting two premiership clubs at the same time was blasphemous.i doubt rooney will ever leave england but he can always decide to join, say, chelsea?

Every kid has the same thing. The club you are indocotrinated into..lol.. and the club you admire. A simple tally of his age and our time of dominance would tell you that United would have been the club in the spotlight for all kids his age. Essien who is a bit older talks about adoring Cantona, as do a few other20something players. It is only natural to look up to who is dominant when you're growing up.

Everton are his heart...United? The brain.

Probably not. Remember, their European away games are in Cardiff and Wrexham, not Turin.

Well I'm sure its nice for them to beat us. One week of the year, then they can go back to being the second team in Manchester.

As for Ronaldo, its great news if he does look to be staying for sure, but at the same time, the football world is just too volatile for me to assume that signing a new contract means he'll be here for the rest of his career. There was a time when it was unthinkable that David Beckham could play somewhere else as well. But hopefully Ronaldo (and his agent, of course ) see some positive in the future of this club, and in the young players we have who will hopefully develop into the core of another legendary squad. And who knows, maybe the Gl*zers are actually making a decent effort to accomodate the players and convince the best ones that it really is worth staying.

Didn't Beckham make it known at one point that he'd eventually like to play for Barcelona? Not that it ever happened (or will)...

Don't remember that one. Sounds like a tabloid rumor, and I didn't really pay much attention to those until I joined BigSoccer.

If your referring to Barcalona as in the Metrostars, then yes.
