"My Parents are from are from Guadalajara, I have both nationalities. What I want is a chance from either Lavolpe or Arena to play in the World Cup"

Fair enough, I suppose, but I wish he had thought through some things before opening his mouth.
I see Mexico as being a national side that favors either homegrown players or homegrown players that have moved on to a Euro or South American league. A formerly reserve and lower divison player in the US and Mexico has slim to no chance of making El Tri especially one thats prolly more American than not and one that's coming off as a gun for hire.
Alas, I really wish Herc had been called in to camp but it's a little late to go to this WC unless something drastic happens in the US camp like Rolfe breaking a leg. That is, if he hasn't pissed off Bruce Arena already.

The quote I'm reading says:
"What I want is the opportunity and I don't care if I get it from Lavolpe or Arena: I want to play in a selection and go to the World Cup."
Not that there's a lot of difference.
Commence the comparisons to Arnold, Fonda, and Rossi. Traitors all.

Lavolpe recently got a lot of heat for using an Argentine-born player, and I think he said that he would only use Mexican-born players in the future. That is one of many reasons that Herculez Gomez will never play for the MNT.

Fascinating. So I take it Naelson (aka Zinha) won't be playing for Mexico this summer?

How is the comment 'I just want a chance to play in the WC' pissing off Arena?

On one hand, he's definitely an exciting prospect.
On the other hand, anyone who would even CONSIDER playing for Mexico has no place on the US national team.

Not familiar with Arnold and Fonda, but Rossi stated that he wants to play
for Italy.
Herc wants to play for the USNT but has other options.

Pretty sure that's wrong. The quote I saw was just that he wouldn't call up additional foreigners, and he explained that he wouldn't call up Gaitan (Argentinian) because it would've forced him to move away from his preferred tactical scheme.

"What I want is the opportunity and I don't care if I get it from Lavolpe or Arena: I want to play in a selection and go to the World Cup."
Translation: I really don't care about representing a country at the world cup. I just want a fat check and to advance my career. Screw the fans.
I hope he never wears a USMNT jersey. The Mexiscum Nat Team can have him as far as I'm concerned.

Not familiar with Arnold and Fonda ...
Didn't you ever watch Happy Days? Arnold ran a diner, and Fonda was the gay guy in the leather jacket. I think Rossi was a friend of Lenny and Squiggy.

Or maybe he just wants a chance to play in the WC which is every player's
dream. Sometimes you don't get your first choice. You think all of those
naturalized Americans would have been pissing around with the USMNT if
they had a chance with their birth countries?

I'd like to play for a team that can play for a World Series.
It doesn't matter if it's either the Red Sox or Yankees. Either one is good

I'm loving this. The US is finally joining the world of soccer. LOL I understand his frustration. As he can play for either country, I see nothing wrong with his comment. It wasn't designed to piss anyone off, but rather to try to open up his options. If it backfires on him, that's life. But I am not going to be mad at a guy for trying to open doors for himself.

He's caught in the middle. If Arena calls him up for a look, then Mexican-Americans will call him a traitor and throw p*ss-balloons etc at him.
If Lavolpe calls him up for a look, then some Americans (not me) will consider him a traitor. Btw, with that reasoning, why aren't all the yanks abroad considered traitors because they don't play in MLS?
In the cases of Armas and Joseph, they went for a minnow country call-up. Armas though was lucky to get out of that due to legal technicalities.
I really sympathize with Herc. He is getting screwed from 2 directions.

I hate him for saying it only because of what I'm now going to have to read here.
Okay, I don't hate him but given that he seemingly has much less of a shot at El Tri, you can't help but think it was an attempt to force Arena's hand and that just seems like a really bad strategy.

He's played well enough for a callup. Apparently Bruce doesn't see it exactly that way. He's under consideration by Bruce, and in fact is an alternate, but was not called straight away into camp. I don't really understand why, but so be it.
First of all, we don't know if Gomez actually said what is posted. All we know is that some obscure online Mexican article says he did.
Second, comparisons to Rossi are not valid. Rossi was called up by Bruce and declined because he wanted to play for Italy. Gomez has never been called up, and has clearly stated his intention to play for the US in the past.
Much ado about nothing.

Herc must be taking PR lessons from Landon. Open mouth, insert foot. What Freddy said about playing for the US vs. Ghana was a lot more politic. Of course, Freddy said it from a US camp, after playing numerous times for youth teams, and Herc is still on the outside looking in.
