Been trying to throw together a houston soccer supporters temporary web site - nothing fancy on the graphics/style until we get a name and colors - but thought I should start putting together some ideas.
Check it out: http://www.gorley.com/soccer
I don't want to spend too much time on it, since we'll have to move or rebuild it when we get our own domain name, but it's much easier to talk about what's missing and how to organize the site if we have something to talk about.
Thanks

Good start. I bet you guys are hoping to find out the names/colors asap, huh? Wish I had information.
Best of luck, guys. Contact me if you have any questions about the 19th of Feb.

Very good start. Keep it up. Hopefully MLS and AEG will come through with a good logo, name, and unis. So far. Houston fans have done their part.

Cool. Thanks.
We didn't have many replies on the kickaround yet, so I'm going to see about setting something up closer to the 11th.
Also, I'll know more about bars for next meeting this week.

Hey, cool. And not so graphic intensive that it kills my dial-up speed!

My brain just caught up with my fingers - put those pics of the meeting on there, if you want to, if nothing else than for a layout sort of test...

Starting a new group is never easy.
But I'd like to remind you that the LA RIOT SQUAD came into being in 2002 and has emerged as one of the most creative models of a modern MLS supporter's group in existence. No dues... no leadership... just pure ideas.
For those that missed it:

And a little sumthin sumthin....

Enjoy!

See what happens when you intern with The Inferno for a year or so, steal their playbook and go claim the ideas as your own?
;)
Yes, honestly, I kid. Tommy did hang with The Inferno before going to LA, and hopefully some of the positives rubbed off on him, but the LARS is due credit for becoming something all its own. I would certainly add him to the list of folk to take notes from.

Thanks for all the positive feedback. This wait for a name and colors is killing me, just want to get started on the official site soon.
This didn't take very long to setup - although I have fumbled around with it a little bit - I'm trying out a new tool called Drupal - and it seems to work well for what we needed. Besides having forums, blogs, and polls built in, it also allows me to give permissions to people to update the web site - so that we can have a handful of people adding stuff to the site instead of one person shouldering the load.
Hopefully that will allow me to focus on the more technical stuff, like setting up a store and any other kind of mini-applications that we need.
I'm still working on adding all the navigation to all the pages, it's an organizational process that's just a little tedious, so I'm trying to plan it out before I just start making a mess. :-)
Please - if you have any feedback or would like to see anything else, or have comments or thoughts about the structure or what else should be on the site - let me know!

This is really well done. You must be a techy ... nice to have you in charge of all of this.
Does anyone know where the supporters meeting is on Feb. 11th and what time.
Also, when is the National team game in Dallas?

Sweet - just got back from the press conference. I don't even have to update the colors for the site. :-)
Hmmm. Good guess, or did I know - just under an NonDisclosure Agreement?
I am a bit of a techie... I'm the webmaster for some big downtown company. No - I generally don't do side work - but gladly doing this for free.

I've proposed a couple of locations to Yanks02. We'll announce the location of the 2/11 meeting here well in advance.

Do you have a domain name for the supporters group yet?
I'm setting up a new category on MySoccerLinks.com (http://www.MySoccerLinks.com) for Houston 1836 Supporters, but want to make sure I get the correct URL...
