A little exercise for everyne to participate in.
All you have to do is put our squad into these 5 catergories as follows.
World Ckass Players
Rio
Rooney
RVN
Heinze
Good but not great
VDS
G.N
Ronaldo
Saha
Giggs
Scholes
Average talent
Howard
Fletcher
Brown
Park
Smith
Bardsley
Low End - eternal squaddies
Fortune
Richardson
Not MUQ
O'Shea
Silvestre
Thread inspired by Ted's comments in the match thread. Most curious as to how you would rate our squad. Players like Scholes and Giggs are in decline. The top end players are the ones who are hot right now and would right now walk into most teams in the world. Do not mark on potential, mark on the here and now!
i've included the players who are seen as established 1st teamers and who we regularly see get games or start as cover when others are out. Players like Rossi are not even wet behind the ears yet and are therefore ineligible.

Generally, world class usually means these players would vie for a place in any starting line up in the world. G.N, Giggs, Scholes, Ronaldo could do this?

Giggs and Scholes would've in the past.
Ronaldo...defintely not yet...still a lot of work needed.
Neville...definitely would be on my Premiership best XI, but on a world starting line-up, probably not. But then again, perhaps either Rooney or Ruud wouldn't be starters either hence not world class by that definition.

I did say mark on the here and now in bold :)
And I'm not talking about either a premier or world class xi, I'm talking about the top class sides around the world.

Then don't put them in the World Class category

In that case I stand by my selection...I've put "past it" in parentheses for both Giggs and Scholes as they should be in the category below. Just felt a bit...erm...disrespectful (not sure its the word i'm looking for) not to acknowledge what they once were.
Neville is probably a good talking point, because I think he is on par with the likes of Sagnol and Belletti. He's not blatantly world class, but I wouldn't just call him "good" either. Perhaps somewhere in between.

I wasn't going by what I interpreted DS's definition of World Class to be when I did those categories.

Richardson (better than most here rate him, should get a run in CM with Scholes out)
Bardsley (not that he isn't a good player, he just needs a bitm ore experience)
Saha (should be in the 'good' catagory, but is injured far too often)
Smith (lower end of average talent, but his workrate makes him well worth having around)
Low End - eternal squaddies
Howard (I doubt he will ever make it here, unfortunately)
Not MUQ
