Okay, I thought I might as well start the thread.

http://www.cbs.com/primetime/love_monkey/

Debuts next Tuesday at 10:00 EST. Based on the middling Kyle Smith novel of the same name. Stars the dude from NBC's "Ed." About the a guy in the music biz and his three buddies. Set in NYC. Also has a paunchy Jason Priestly sans the sideburns. Touted as the male version of "Sex and the City." Getting decent reviews.

I hope Skipshady chimes in here...they are literally shooting this show in his front yard.

I'll probably check it out, but the commericals on CBS for the show are annoying the crap out of me. Though, I guess the ad did it's job if I'm considering watching it...

Loved it>Tom cavanagh seems to play a softy character.

This show has potential but to me Tom cavanagh is a genius and he always seems to be getting shows that end up in the toiletbowl.

Good episode but lousy music I like how they visited cbgb.

I also thought it was a great show. So with my taste this usually mean that it will only last a season. I liked the music that they played. I didn't know that it was based on a book. I'll have to go out and get it.

A book / movie that I thought would make a great series is "High Fidelity".

No NYC A&R rep would ever hang a My Chemical Romance poster in his apartment.

Having said that, it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

If it does make it big, then it will turn into a machine in which record labels start paying the producers money for the main character to 'discover' the new bands they just signed.

I watched it, but only because I saw this thread earlier in the day.

Not to be a total crank, but if that show was any more formulaic it would be produced by Similac.

The standard "gang of friends" left me very cold. Love how they don't even bother to give the black guy a job in the intro -- he's just "Shooter -- man about town." That is hilariously lazy.

The kooky girlfriend dropping spoken word and yoga references. And the steady as she goes female friend -- "Will they eventually become romantically entangled? Hmmm."

The star was very engaging and likable though. I laughed a few times. And that girl at the end was crazy gorgeous. All in all it was huge Domino's Pepperoni Pizza. Dull, not good for you, factory produced -- but if it's in front of me I'll eat it.

I also thought it was extremely formulaic and suffered from mediocre writing. Was anyone suprised that the former baseball player is gay? Just part of the formula. And there's no question that the sexual tension will ratchet up between Tom and the female best friend.

Man, Jason Priestly has not aged well.

That being said, I'll be damned if I didn't end up liking the show by the end of the episode. I'll keep watching, but I'm afraid that it will get pretty stale unless they hire some smarter writers for the show.

Interesting you would say lousy music as that is supposed to be one of the main selling points of the show.

I haven't seen the show yet.

It was enjoyable if not formulaic as others have already commented on.

I enjoyed the music industry aspect of the show more than the love interest side but after reading about the show they will unfortunately be focusing plenty on the love. Hopefully they don't get too out of whack.

And yes, that girl at the end was smokin'!!!

I remember seeing Nic Harcourt's name in the credits, but I didn't remember that he is the music supervisor for the show. I generally like Harcourt's musical tastes, so it will be interesting to hear what will be on the show in the future.

I read his book and you can see a lot of his thoughts on music in the way that the main character see the music industry.

I watched the show finally and liked it for the most part. We'll see where it goes...

Thought that the show was a little better last night. The top five list Julia rattled off was a blatant High Fidelity rip off, but most of the show is a rip off of that movie.

That being said, I'm still digging the show. It's ultra saccharine, but that's okay.

Instead of Love monkey they should change it to High Fidelity.

Minute I heard about this show, I thought about my buddy who worked A&R for Astralwerks.

So I watched and it didn't seem different from what he said. Makes sense why he left the music industry.

A&R is a tough job and the music industry are all ************** who just want to take advantage of there artists.

Independecy is the way of the future just like in movies it can be successful and even in music now days artists in an indie label can make it big.

There is money to be made being independent.
