ok, so this is for the whole lot, and not just for jaymes, right?

i've given a grade of 'B', as there's no 'A-'. frankly, i should've given a 'A', anyway, as i think you guys are closer to that, but i do have a minor point that prevents me giving the highest grade. and that is this:

it would, in my opinion, be allright if we were a little slower on the trigger to give non-yids grief for their contributions here. it seems to have been the policy around here for awhile (certainly since before jaymes was a mod) that we are simply not going to take shyt about THFC from others - period. now, that's fair, in my opinion, and i can't really criticize it. and if that's the way that most yids here want it, so be it. there have been, and will be, no arguments from me.

but since this thread has solicited my opinion, i'll give it. i think that we could probably do a slightly better job of distinguishing between the kind of crap that genuinely deserves a proper cyber-slapping, and stuff that merits either serious counterpoint or good-natured piss-takes. in the case of the former, i'll be the first to get stuck in - trolls don't deserve better than whatever we give 'em. but occasionally, as i've implied above, it seems we're a little quick to pull the trigger.

ok. it's not my board, and i've certainly not been designated arbitor of what constitutes trolling, good-natured banter, or serious analysis. everyone can make up their own minds and respond accordingly. i'm just saying it'd be ok with me if we took a second before pulling out the flamethrowers to consider whether or not it's really merited. apologies if that comes off like a criticism, it's honestly not meant as one - and certainly not against any individual. it's just kind of the direction the forum has taken. and it's just my opinion.

that said, jaymes and the other yid-mods are top-shelf. in fort wayne, indiana, there aren't a whole lot of us around, and for all the things i like about bigsoccer, being able to touch base most every day with like-minded spurs fans is easily at the top. we've all waited so long for decent football to come back to the lane, having the bigsoccer yids to share it with between trips to the lane makes it that much better. not to mention that without this forum, i'd never get any orpheas news.

in retrospect, i should've given you all an 'A'. oh, well. cheers.

and COME ON YOU SPURS!

In fairness, Pookspur has made many good points (as he often does).

I would make a couple of points to which I don't necessarily know the answer:

1. Why do we have so many stickies? 7 (including this thread) is surely excessive.

2. Why do we have so many mods? We have 8 now. That is bordering on the ridiculous.

3. As Pookspur said, we are too harsh on "trolling". Seriously does no-one here ever go to the Arse forum and attempt to make a genuine point? We should either be able to treat it seriously as a genuine point, or treat is with the contempt it deserves.

4. Please, please, improve the Spurs history thread. For a club so rooted in the past, and so dependent on our history, if we are to have such a thread it should be reflective of quite how glorious we once were. If people want I will do it.

These mods are great. Posh does a great job of keepinng things on topic, Colom gives good points and stirs up new discussion and Iason is hilarious and does a good job poking fun at other teams. I also enjoy our small contests to bash andy reid.

Cheers, you mates are the best.

Yeah, you're all alright.
I'm biased towards Double though, and Mad Hattah cos he was the only Spurs Mod at one point (even if he's never around now).

Ultramega Okay.

I think you have done well on the most part. If there is an area to improve on it would be in the case that Dave brought up. Editing posts from Scum posters is a bit of a piss take, and that has never happened to me on their boards. Let them spout their shite, so we can laugh at them, nothing like a bit of banter, if you're upset give em a neg rep, but don't change a post unless it does not fall under acceptable guidelines that BS is setting. Also, I think we have the posters on here who can give it back to them, w/out having to resort to editing. Now a troll like cobra007, although amusing for 5 minutes or so, needed a forum ban just for being a sock.

So I'll give you a B+

Couple of things -

First, I can't really rate you guys becuase of my own ignorance. I don't know what moderators do. I can rate you on how good of a poster you all are individually becuase I've read your posts, but unless you tell me exactly what it is you do, I won't be in a position to say how well you do it. So maybe one of you can add a little description of your duties and responsibilities to that little schpiel you have posted at the begining. Personally, I'd like to know how one becomes a moederator and what input the bigsoccer members (the members of that particular message board in particular) have in the process.

Second, if truly honest feedback is what you want, then you have to make the poll blind. That's why most surveys, polls, elections etc in the real world promise not to divulge the identities of the people who participate. It's not so much that I want to say bad things (I don't!) as I think it would be a more honest process if everyone didn't know how you voted or why you voted in a particular way.

Thanks,

Spur.

From the point of view of a non-Spur, non-Gooner, I'm happy - this forum has one of the best groups of posters of any forum on the site, and along with the Man Utd board this is the only club forum I check with any regularity (Arsenal & Chelsea semi-regularly, the others only if something interesting is about).

Keep up the good work.

I admit nothing! NOTHING!

Ok, seriously though. I can only comment on the Double as when I was last on he was the only mod around on here. He did a good job as I recall.

The other 100975 mods that have popped up I can't say, although they were genrally very good posters before they went to the dark side.

One small suggestion I'd like to make is that in times past, rival fans have soemtimes been kept on too short a lead. Nothing wrong with a bit of playfull banter every now and then, imo. However, it is difficult separating the wheat from the chaff with respect to trolls and this is an area that will require some work on but if it happened I think the board would be a much livlier place.

I personally like the forum to pretty unforgiving on trolling. Now, that refers to true trolling....coming by for no other reason than to make trouble. Same people who set off firecrackers at 3am just to wake their neighbors. I don't mind in the least fans of other teams that come to discuss and disagree, even over and over. It's not always easy for a moderator to distinguish these trolls from visitors, but they seem to do well with it.

Plenty of forums are too loose with "trolls" in the name of free speech or something, but that can have a pretty profound impact on the quality of life in the neighborhood to be awakened by firecrackers at 3 am pretty much every night. I certainly hope that doesn't happen here.
