personally i think not.. to me going to the world cup is like a big fat advertising campaign for these players and usually after it they get all sorts of offers.

I think you're missing the point of the question - the players are fine, they are still getting paid by their clubs all year round, including during internationals.

They are asking whether the countries should pay the players' wages instead of the clubs during those periods.

I think using that argument, I'd say it would be fairer if the FA used their money to compensate the clubs rather than pay the players.

Its an honour to be selected to play for your country, they shouldnt expect to be paid and their county shouldnt have to pay them.

But saying that, if they won an international tournament (World Cup, Euro) then yes they should be entitled to bonus payments.

They could get a match fee .Not as much as their usual wages though.

The World Cup is one of the few times where money doesn't matter one bit and that is what makes it even more enjoyable. The clubs gain really valuable marketting if their players play good there and the price of the players gets jacked up so they shouldn't complain to much.

What is the 'nominal fee' out of interest? You have to give them something, because nowadays there will be a few who will no longer offer their services for free. I couldn't tell you who, but I'm sure it would happen.

i think maybe in the event of injury, but if it was compulsory for all FA's to compensate clubs for players wages, it could spell the end of international football as we know it. how could all the poor FA's do it?? like Ghana? could they pay essiens' wages. The ivory coast? i think even the Brazilian FA would have problems with all the corruption and the poo economy.

Clubs are starting to get too greedy for my liking. If they start demanding players wages be paid, it will all end up like American sports. the players will be amateur, people will start preferring club football over the world cup, countries will no longer be able to compete. etc etc.

I have to agree with this - appearance fee only, which should be nominal and only paid, to the charity of their choice................

Why should they play for free? I don't want players from my club on high wages paid for by my tickets going to play for some country just to get injured.

that's ok for england, but in the wider sense, what about players who bugger off to the african cup of nations in the middle of the season?

You can't rely on some African nations to pay their players either way, even if they say they will. Corruption...

managers know all about the african nations cup when they sign the players. they sign them then start complaining about it.

that's not the point though is it, it's not the question of whether or not they should miss club games, it's the question of who should pay their salary.

mind you, if you made the african FAs pay the players' wages, they probably wouldn't call premiership players up, as it would bankrupt them, which isn't exactly fair.

If players get paid for watching the game in the stands, or being injured, then why not for the ANC? Either way, I don't see why these multimillion dollar clubs are so incompetant as to not work this thing out when they first signed the player.
