Carlos Ruiz, High Salaries & Aftershocks

RUIZ REDUX. Negotiations continue between MLS and agent Richard Motzkin and his client Carlos Ruiz, whose contract with MLS has expired but his deal with Guatemalan club Municipal continues.

"As he's a proven goalscorer there are teams in Mexico and Europe who are interested in Carlos," said Motzkin. "He's also said he'd like to stay in MLS and those discussions continue. But because Municipal is involved it's a little more complicated than your typical situation."

Motzkin said Ruiz is in Guatemala and the pair speaks almost every day. Ruiz is reportedly seeking a salary comparable to that of teammate Eddie Johnson, who signed a new deal last year for a $750,000 base. When asked if such a sum would rule out a return to FC Dallas because of salary-cap restrictions, Motzin replied, "That wouldn't be an issue."

But the fire cannot afford to add an SI who can score.

I believe what Motzkin is saying is "that wouldn't be an issue" means that Ruiz doesn't give a damn if he has to leave FC Dallas in order to get compensated in what he deams is a fair manner, not that it won't be a problem get both EJ and Ruiz on the same roster.

No he's saying most of Ruiz's salary won't count against the cap.

Well, yeah by percentage, but he would still max the cap allowance per player. I still think Ruiz doesn't give a damn about Dallas and if he has to play for RSL he will as long as he's getting 750k a year.

GEEZ!!! Does anyone else find it despicable that two Chicago area newspapers have blatant errors in their articles on the Gutierrez trade? The Southtown economist says Will John is going back to KC where he is from, but that the KC team has moved to Houston!!! NO They have not. The Sun Times says that Will John is a member of the Canadian national team. NO He is not. That's Will Johnson, another Fire player. I'm glad to see articles about the Fire, but can't you hire professional writers who get their facts straight?? Then again it is the print media and maybe they are following the examples of the New York Times, NBC, and CBS, who make up facts when they don't have them.

"Part of the reason for the move, according to the source, is that [Marsch] has had an ongoing feud with Fire head coach Dave Sarachan."

Hunh. A veteran player has an ongoing feud with Sarachan and gets shipped off to a crap team. That sounds vaguely familiar. I'll just offer again that if the choice comes down to Dave or one of our players, I can drive up to help Dave pack.

That's why I come here... This is the best source I've found for both fact and rumor across the league.
