I can't wait. American Idol is one of the few shows I watch on a regular basis. And the first couple of weeks are always the best.

Yeah, the initial multi-city auditions are funny. The show slows down a bit during the middle stages, but picks up again when the Final 12 start competing. :)
I wonder if there'll be a William Hung this season (considering that there really wasn't one last season)? :D

For most of last season, I watched the HD airings of American Idol on a non-HD TV (connected to a Comcast HD-DVR via S-cable). However, today was the first time I ever saw the show on a true HDTV (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=280238). It makes a huge difference!
Anyway, the season started today with auditions in Chicago. It included the usual cast of good singers, bad singers who truly think they're good, and the exhibitionists who know they're not but simply wanted to appear on TV. Moreso than in seasons past, though, the camera also caught what the judges had to say after each contestant stepped out.
Two of the funniest moments were:
After a contestant whose day job is leading cows into cow-judging competitions was turned down with a snarky remark from Simon, Randy told her to name one of the cows "Simon", to which Paula deadpanned "Name him Mad Cowell".
The genuine WTF look on Simon's face toward Paula and Randy (but mostly at Paula) when they both voted "yes" for Crazy Dave near the end of the episode.
The season continues tomorrow (Wednesday, 1/18/06)...

1. I LOVED the Mad Cowell remark. That was classic.
2. Yes. Why in the world did they let him through? He wasn't even funny spazzy, he was just spazzy.
My favorite moment was the guy with the Statue of Liberty outfit, complete with fake torch, that got through "Start spreeeeeading" of his song before Simon cut him off and told him to stop. I was laughing sooo hard. I also liked the fake tan orange girl. And all the awful renditions of Lady Marmelade.

I think you got your answer last night with Mr. Shoeless Shaker. What were they thinking?!

I wonder if wearing a costume immediately disqualifies the contestant in the judges' minds? :D
Too bad tonight's episode is only an hour, as opposed to last night's two hours. :(

I agree. Like yanks02 said, he wasn't even funny, like he tried too hard or something.

Oh I thought he was hilarious. When he was wiggling around saying to Paula, "I feel a yes" or however he said it. Maybe we can get him to come to San Jose and meet with the Council and say "I feel you saying yes to a stadium." Maybe it would work! :p

It would probably help if the San Jose City Council included Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. :D

I just found her totally puzzling. She seemed to act one way with the judges and a whole 'nother way with Ryan outside of the room. Even her voice changed. Very, very, very strange....

OMG!! How scary was that suburnt trashy chick's mom??? I almost screamed when she gazed into the camera eye. . . i was reminded of the Monty Python scene in Holy Grail when the crowd screams, "She's a witch! Burn her! Burn her!".
. . i think Momma Suntan was also missing teeth, which is why she kept her mouth closed, too.
