Togo defeated Ghana, 1-0, in a friendly today, in preparation for the African Nations Cup. Not sure if either side was close to full strength, considering the French League had a full slate today and I think some of the players for these two nations play there. Anyway, the announcers on Fox World Report talked as if it were a fairly drab affair.

In other news concerning World Cup group opponents: Christian Vieri moved to Monaco from AC Milan today in an attempt to get more playing time in hopes of making the Italian World Cup squad this summer.

Wrong forum.
No it's not. Ghana will be an opponent of the US and Vieri may be part of the Italy squad. These are issues certainly pertinent to the "Analysis" portion of this forum.

Tough to look into this match too much as Ghana was without injured powerhouse Essien, although given this injury and his penchant for getting red cards, it might be a sign of what's to come if we face Ghana without him.

I'm fine with this being discussed here. As I may have mentioned, I greatly prefer to keep discussions of what belongs or doesn't behind the scenes via PM or reported post. Thanks.

All I saw were a few short highlights.
There was some really poor defending.
But maybe neither team was playing any of their WC starters.

Not that Ghana is a bad team, but I'd be very disapointed if we don't beat them.

Fox had the highlights on last night. Appiah played. Woeful defending was my one takeaway from what was shown. It looked pretty relaxed.

You ask this question, while there is a stickied thread about ITALY in this same forum?

As I mentioned above, it's fine if some want to track Ghana in their upcoming tournament. Let's keep it all in one thread though.

Ghana didnt have a real strong team , but it wasnt that bad either. I also only saw highlights on Fox , and I got the impression of poor defending, but it was only highlights so who knows........ we will beat them though...:D

This is better off in a WC forum.

So is the Italy thread, as is every other thread discussing 90% of the things regarding the NT in the run-up to the WC, but alas, we're in a quandry--our NT is IN the wc...in short, first, you're wrong--on logic, it belongs here, and secondly, stop being so (wrong and) anal.

Discussing USNT news and analyzing the US team vs. other opponents belongs here. Personally I think a thread about results from future opponents the US will be playing the World Cup have a better home in the WC forum, but that's me...and DK has the negatives from the 2005 BigSoccer moderator Christmas Party.

FWIW, Frimpong is being tracked by a number of big European clubs and Ghana's defensive backline in the WC will probably be nothing as it was vs. Togo, as Kuffour and Dickoh are likely to be in it.

And it sounds like Yakubu was in midfield. He is more likely in the back if/when he starts for Ghana, I think.
