Why not an MBE or two for European Cup Winners?

I agree in essence, but I'll settle for trophies over respect any day.

Without belittling those who have received them, the whole honours thing is a bit of a lottery, in my view, and I'd not get into a huff about not receiving one.

Well, clearly I've no standing as a non-Brit, but with Tom Jones being knighted, is it possible to sink any lower. In that context, SG could've gotten an MBE? I think Parry's point is the anti-Scouse thing seems to persist even with New Labor.

Funny this inferiority that the "Ruling classes" display. I know I'll never be in that position, not now anyway! but someone aught to tell them to stuff their MBE up Charlie's arse. They'd be remembered a lot longer.

As mentioned before, as an American I've no real opinion or right to weight in. But I've seen worse congratulated for less.

Well that is exactly what Keith Richard said he'd do if ever asked, as he made fun of Sir Mick for accepting.

Next home match the Kop should belt out "You can stick your MBEs up your arse!"

What exactly does MBE stand for? Medal of the British Empire or something?
For the English members, can you give some insight into what, if any, weight or importance the average Englishperson gives to the royal family? When i went to England as a kid, there seemed to be a lot of coverage and love, but when i went back as a teen, there seemed to be indifference towards them.
Kiss MBE - Kiss My Butt Elizabeth. :D

Member of the British Empire, Order of the British Empire. Awarded to the Beatles back in the day. John claimed to have smoked a reefer in the bathroom at Buckingham Palace before the event. It's not a Knighthood. See the answer from wikipedia:

As an Englishman; these awards barely register - I can see Parry's point of view to an extent, and it would be nice for the players/team to be honoured for their achievement but in the long run actually winning the Champions League will stand tall above any honours list. I for one, would rather Parry concentrated his efforts on making sure we have everything we need to win the Premiership next season :)
The correction of the original 'mistake' really de-values the whole affair now anyway. You can kind of imagine the players being a little embarassed that they are now getting their award simply because their boss made a fuss (a bit like a mother might in a school awards process!)
Just my opinions though ;)

But if it was the red scum everybody in England would be up in arms if they didn't get an award, Sir Angry would be on every sky report saying how everybody hated them and Giggs would be sulking in a corner and not talking to the media, while christy Ronaldo would be calling chavski for a move.
Of course that would never happen as they couldn't get to the last 16 :D
