It is reported that Real wants to replace the aging Zidane with Riquelme.

I have read that story as well, no disrespect to Villareal, who have, lets face it, resurrected Riquelme's career in Spain, but Riquelme should be at a big club with the ability he has.

Though I feel Riquelme should be in a team where there is no competition among stars, I think it would be a good time to move to Real, because the Galactico's egos have been brought down quite a lot, and also Real is most certainly at its lowest point. From now on, they can only progress. And Riquelme could well be a key in that reconstruction.

If Roman goes to the bernabue it will be a good move careerwise. He seems to be the perfect replacement for zizuo. Villareal are reluctant to release him but i think with the right price he will leave for the new challenge.
I think this deal won`t be complete until after the world cup.

IIRC Barcelona still has a financial interest in Riquelme. I believe it's based on whether Villareal in the top four of La Liga and something about Champions League. Barca could stand to make a lot of cash off this deal. I believe with the talent that Riquelme has the skill of the players on Real, they can make a huge turn around. The key for Riquelme would be who ends up coaching long term. Wrong coach/system and you end up with Barca all over again.

Riquelme needs a manager who believes in him, he never had that at Barca. But he could turn round the fortunes of Real Madrid if they built a team round him, imagine the service he could lay on for Ronaldo/Raul/Cassano.

If Madrid wanted him next year they'd have to pay $72M euro for to buy out his contract

I think if Madrid go after Riquelme, then they should also go after Manuel Pelligrini. I think he's an excellent manager who has done a fantastic job at Villarreal. He's created a system in which Riquelme has flourished.

I heard Inter is also interested in Roman. I'd rather see him go there and feed the ball to Adriano instead of Ronaldo and Raul, who are both past their prime.

That'd be hard to do with Adriano playing for Chelsea. ;)
