Got a 65k award on British Airways (via Alaska/American miles). Seattle-Vancouver-London on June 10th. Figured I'd take an EasyJet flight from London to Dortmund on the 11th, just in time for the Gelsenkirchen game. Looks like it's only 39 Euros. Returning July 3rd Frankfurt-London-Seattle. Could even see the Nats playing in the Quarterfinals on July 1st! :)

You could also take Ryan Air from Stanstead to Dusseldorf. There's a train right to Stanstead from one of the London train stations (Liverpool?). I've taken a bus from Luton into London that connects to a tube station on the north side of town and depending on traffic that can be a hassle.

100K on Delta seems to get you there. Four of us are flying into Brussels on 6/10, drinking beer en route to US - Czech, staying for US - Italy, catching a 64 Euro flight to Warsaw on 6/18 to see the Stones then flying back from Warsaw via Paris on 6/20.

We have no WC tix yet (donations will be accepted) but will be going anyway.

for people who fly United, 50000 miles gets you there but you may not be able to fly direct. I ended up not with United for part of my trip, but with their other Star Alliance partners. Chances are, if you can get accross the ocean and end up in Europe, even if through a different city, you can probably get where you're headed.

(I'm staying in Luxembourg and taking the train in, so I ended up flying from DC to NYC to London to Brussels which is close enough for me).

There are definite options through other Star Alliance partners such as Austrian airlines via DC-Vienna and then elsewhere. Also consider going British Midlands and travelling via Manchester

My visa allows me to burn 60K miles on select Euro destinations, and Frankfurt happened to be one of them :@)

I was able to choose Lufthansa, direct flight from SF to Frankfurt.

My wife and I are using 60,000 each from Dallas to Frankfurt. However, each way requires two stops, which is a bit of a pain. But hey, it's free!
american outa dfw? if so i only saw the 100000 upgrade ?

It looks like we'll be going ATL-Rome and Shannon, IRE-ATL for 50K each in Delta miles.

Assuming Delta's still operating, of course. :)

I tell ya, if you're going open jaws, skyscanner.net and ryanair.com are great for figuring out weird itineraries.

I am taking my wife and kids, and did not want to book flights until I knew we had tickets.

I was unable to get a saver (50k miles) seat on United or anyone in the Star alliance. But we did not have much flexibility. Basically had to be Sat 10th for us. Appeared that the way home there was still availability.

so I had to use a standard (80k) and buy two seats. Still ended up being cheaper than other deals i could find.

this was Dulles to Frankfurt, straight shot.

Booked 2 Skysaver seats on Delta for 50K each to Dublin...taking a cheap Aer Lingus flight from there to Frankfurt...It was better than flying to frankfurt for 100K and buying the other seat full price

I had no problem using miles for continental tickets over to Germany. I booked two months ago and did have to use the double miles but there was no issue - all flights had seats.
