wow, there are many ice creams in Cologne. I have my favorite in Belgium Viertel (part of Cologne). But if you come to Cologne, you will see many nice
stret cafes and ice cream places in Old town and in the city. All are very good. Hard to recommend the best one. But I would maybe recommend ice-cream places around Hohenzollernring (this is so called Belgium Viertel). There are best restaraunts and pubs too. I like this part of Cologne. This is the part where the best shops are. So just ask about Hohenzollernring, Ehrenstrasse,
Friesenplatz.

I'll be staying in Dusseldorf for a bit and am going to Ang / Prt in Koln on 11/06.
Is Dusseldorf in the same local rail region as Koln, so I can use my matchday ticket or will I have to pay to get there?
I see Koln is not part of the VRR and Dusseldorf is, so I'm guessing I'll have to pay to get there, which is odd because it's only about a 25 minute trip (whereas Dusseldorf to Dortmund is about 1 hour but in the VRR region).
Btleo or anyone else - thoughts?

Köln is part of the VRS (Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg), which borders on the VRR. If you have a ticket to travel within the VRR, you don't need to buy an additional ticket (with your matchday ticket) to get to Köln. Otherwise, you'll need a ticket from Düsseldorf to the last town/station you travel through before reaching the VRS. They should be able to tell you at the VRR ticket office or similar.

Hey By-tor,
I plan on doing the same thing. Staying in Dussel and then taking a short trip to the Portugal game and then back to Dussel that night; US-Czech with the others in my group the next day.
Anyone else doing the same trek?
Let me know about your train/travel plans between Dussel and Koln.
Woo-Hoo; going to Germany!!

If you're in Düsseldorf and you like beer, you MUST visit the Brauerei Im Füchschen (http://www.fuechschen.de/).

Looks like a great place to drop in and have a couple while grabbing a keg on the way to Gelsenkirchen. ;)

Too funny! I was away for a few days & just noticed the confusion as to who I was. We have 3 boys & the DKRBOYS is also my personalized license plates. No, I wasn't planning on letting my 11 & 15 year old drink (maybe a sip or two for the 15 year old). The 20 year old is VERY excited! We are definitely visiting the pub you mentioned bltleo. I was just wondering if the whole family can go inside. You've answered that clearly!
We'll be arriving on the 9th (the birthday of both my husband & Eric Wynalda). We're hoping to visit the pub for lunch that day, then Hard Rock for his birthday dinner. You're welcome to join us!!

You really CAN grab a keg from there, can't you? That looks like a great place! I'll add it to my list! Thanks mike!

Now I am totally confused. I will be staying in Dusseldorf for the Gelsenkirchen match, and Frankfurt for the Kaiserslautern match. Will my WC ticket be good for free train rides to and from either match? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Düsseldorf and Gelsenkirchen are both in the VRR. So yes, you can use your match ticket to travel between the two cities. :)
Frankfurt is in Hessen and Kaiserslautern is in Rheinland-Pfalz, they aren't in the same regional zone. It's a 2 hour train ride.
Kaiserslautern is part of the WVV (http://www.der-takt.de/Partner.35.0.html). The cheapest way for you would probably be to take regional trains (no EC, IC or ICE trains) on matchday and to show your ticket to the person behind the counter when buying your ticket. They'll be able to find the best connection for your needs.
