Looking for info on Central America I stumbled upon this -> link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Provinces_of_Central_America)

I was intrigued by the following phrase:

Despite the failure of a lasting political union, the sense of shared history and the hope for eventual reunification persist in the nations formerly in the union.

Is this true? Do people from Central America share a common identity (or something like that)?

(Out of curiosity - an union of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica would have a population of 37,816,598, a surface of 422,614 square km and a GDP of 4300$.)

If this does not belong this then could one of the mods move this thread to the proper forum? Thank you.

no way... at least not in Costa Rica... but i think ES, HON, NIC and GUA have a great relationship between them, CR is most likely allied with PAN
Costa Rica and Nicaragua have lots of political differences this days.

You guys can fight whether Honduras or Costa Rica has the biggest ego but remember Guatemala's the capital,;)
That was the main reason why the union did not work, the rest of the provinces hated Guatemalans for having the capital, but it was because it had the biggest population and still has, the last time Guatemala tried to unite the rest of CA with Guatemala was when Justo Rufino Barrios invaded El Salvador and had the victory but while on his horse he was shoot and that made the troops retreat and abandoned the invasion, if he had succeded I think it would have only lasted a few years.

Oh and dont forget our 23rd department, Belize
it appears in most maps in Guatemala including government agencies and is also thought in school, remember it was never officially recognized not by popularity just by some dumb president that wanted to kiss American and British ass.

yea man belice is sepataring more and more though, plus there are some nasty fighting on that side of the the border, no one is sure were the border is ahahahah, i also remember when i went to school we finally reconiszed belize when i was 5 or 6 i think it was 92 and our map had it as a province sort of like rhode island

i was gonna start a thread about to ," what whould happen if belice united once again with guatemala????? " all i know is they better have the sky blue an white flag still and remain named guatemala if that ever happend.!!!damn american and british F U C K s
belice would of made guate even better nation with tourism too esp. there coral scubba diving , i went two years ago to belice its getting nicer to vist for guatemalan passport holder

As of 2005, the border dispute with Guatemala remains unresolved and quite contentious, at various times the issue has involved mediation assistance from the United Kingdom and the CARICOM heads of Government. Since independence, a British garrison has been retained in Belize at the request of the Belizean Government.

I think Guatemala and Argentina should become alllies and invade belize and Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas). I have alwayz had a fantasy of Guatemala invading belize. The fuken brits made belize a crown colony without the permisson of Spain (or Guatemala), it was never british territory.
