This answers the "where is he" question. Even more interesting is that there is now an International spot on the roster open.

Wonder what nationality Sigi has in mind?

All I have to say is this: Where ever the next international superstar comes from they better come to play.

I am puzzled on why he was waived. Did we not have one SI spot left or did we have to waive him to open it up so that we could sign another SI? I thought he had a chance with this team, he even scored for us. I'm wondering about the whole ordeal.

could it be cap space for the Korean player people have been talking about?

This is from MLS Roster rules (http://www.mlsnet.com/about/regulations/index.html#rosters):
Transitional Internationals - These are international players whose 23rd or 24th birthday will fall during the calendar year 2001. Transitional International players will not receive roster protection and will count against a team's salary budget, but will not count toward a team's three Senior International player limit.

So it's not because of the 3-limit Internat'l slots but most likely because of the salary cap. I had hopes for him though. I thought maybe he could be a player who could develop into something great. I wonder if there's a possiblity if we could reclaim him off waivers and dump someone else, say like....Albright.

Oh God no! Please don't dump Albright!

I spoke with an insider at the LAG office today and he said that there were 4 Koreans interested in LAG: 1 defender, 2 mids, and 1 forward.

He also said that we'll be getting a Korean, one way or another, one that would "fit the team".

I vote for a defender, a mid, AND a forward! ;)

To steal a line from one of my favorite sports writers:

So, what are your favorite memories of the Winston Griffiths era?

He scored. :p

BTW, the fastest route to the dog house is to miss practice.
A Pan-Galactic View (http://www.cybersoccernews.com/mls/galaxy/020726galaxy.shtml)
The 23-year-old Griffiths joined Los Angeles in a trade with the MetroStars last April 20 for a conditional SuperDraft pick, but bad practice habits -- not showing up -- led to the Galaxy waiving him on Thursday, a move that Schmid was not eager to make.

"Basically, because he is a player with very good abilities," said the coach. "But you have to show up!"

D'oh!!!

Only a star or future star can get away with such a thing. So long Winston. Better luck in the A-League.

Missing practices, huh? Well that just explains everything. Good job Griffiths, good job.

So guys, now that Winston Griffiths is out like Mexico against the USA, what position do you think the Galaxy most needs to improve upon with the inevitable Korean acquisition? F, M, or D? Personally, I feel we need some sort of Libero-ish midfielder on the team, a la Armas or Mastroeni, cause not only would that free up Pete and Simon to be a little more creative offensively, but would also give EZ some more testicular fortitude to join the attack more frequently, given that he'll have more time to recover defensively knowing that the d-mid's got his back. So who will it be, Hong Myung Bo, Ahn Jung Hwan, or Chong Gug Song? Discuss...

In a perfect world, my first pick would be a quality creative mid-fielder. With Cien winding down, this is a very big hole.

I think Pete can be the defensive mid-fielder you are talking about, and I still have hopes that Marshall and Califf can get their acts in order.

I have no idea if any of the possible Korean additions fit that bill, or if LA could afford a player of that quality.

My second choice would be a solid defender. Its hard to think that LA can get more than one more decent year out of Lalas, and I have no idea if he even wants to stay around for another year after this. If he retired, and with Vanney gone, we would have one of the weakest back lines in MLS.

I would not add a striker. Let Glinton and Mullan develop as compliments to Ruiz. A good "Number 10" would improve their play too.

Hong will probably join the team.

Like Cadaver, I also vote for a creative mid. Cien isn't getting any younger and we need an up-and-comer who can readily contribute to the team. We'll probably end up with a defender though.

yup i dont see Cien playing next year, so a creative midfielder would be great. if not then a defensive minded player

A great fit: Winston doesn't show up for practices and NE doesn't show up for games. It's complementary! Mediocrity for mediocrity.

You serious? Any clue who? From what team? Well, considering we played FC Seoul during the preseason, I'm guessing they are the most likely candidate.

I wouldn't mind seeing Ahn Jung Hwan (formerly with Suwon Bluewings, now with Busan I'Park) come...you might remember him as the guy who did the "ice skating" celebration in the 2002 World Cup game between the US and Korea. He was recently left out of the national squad and seems to be getting restless - he went to the Bundesliga in 2006 and joined MSV Duisburg - they got relegated and he was released from his contract. He then signed a 1 year deal with Suwon Bluewings, one of the best Asian club teams, then joined Busan. He's 32 though, and we all remember what happens with older forwards. Still, he fights for balls and is scrappy, so maybe he's what we need.

Interesting to note: Kiki Musampa (M), one of the guys who Ruud was rumored to be in talks with and who most recently was on trial for Toronto (they didn't sign him due to salary cap restrictions) has surfaced with FC Seoul...kind of random lol.

Adilson dos Santos is a Brasilian defender currently playing with them - he's 31, but has a bunch of experience, having played since 1996. Pires would probably like having him around - who knows? He could turn out to be a real gem.

I miss Hong :P.
