Has the Supporters Sheild trophy already been handed over ot the San Jose fans or will the Houston fans be getting the trophy this year?

San Jose got it at the Supporters Summit thing in Dallas at MLS Cup. I hope the San Jose fans are classy enough to give it to the Houston fans, but knowing how childish some of them acted during the relocation thing, who knows.

Garber did say San Jose would retain the records of the Earthquakes, so maybe he wants them to keep it.

I think the Houston team should get it, their players earned it.

I just remember when Miami won it, and a few months later they had no team. Hopefully we won't have a repeat of that mess.

Does the trophy say "San Jose / Houston" or one or the other? The trophy wasn't won on a Houston field, but from games played in Spartan Stadium. Yet, it would be weird for it to say "San Jose", but sit in a Houston front office.

But IMO, San Jose won it and not Houston. And as Garber said, the records are retained.

I think the best outcome would be for it to say "San Jose", but obviously reside in Houston.

It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Let's put Houston on it and leave it in San Jose.

I recall when the Fusion fans swore they would bury the thing in a swamp where it would never be found. There was an enormous thread about it. Andy Mead got pretty unglued, for one of the rare times.

In the end, cooler heads prevailed and it was recovered.

That said, I can't say I blamed them one damn bit. If it was sitting in my house the day they announced that the Crew was being contracted or relocated, there's no way in hell that they would ever see it again.

Bitter and vindictive? You betcha. Only I'd do something creative, like ship it to Kim Jong Il in North Korea, or leave it in a brown wrapper outside the White House or sneak across Mordor and toss it into the fires of Mount Doom.

Something.

I'd remove the plaque on it and replace it with "AVN Award: Best Male Performance, 2005." Put it right on my mantle.

Didn't know there was a Solo category now.

A photo from my AVN performance? I'm not surprised.

The San Jose Earthquakes won the Shield. The fans of that 2005 team get custody of it this season, and the plaque should read "2005 San Jose Earthquakes". Houston is the defending SS team, but I don't see that their fans have any stake on the SS.

We'll deal with the future of the Shield when that time comes. Plus Sam Pierron already brought up the thought that it's time to make a new trophy at the Supporter Summit - but then, not one single Crew fan could be located to present the Shield to the Quakes fans, so I understand that that bit of news may not have made its way back to Ohio, yet.

What is the incentive to change trophies?

You'd have to ask Sam. I was just taking photos and not paying too much attention.

Judging by the way they mangled the presentation in '04, does that really surprise you?
