No.. but they are new york rich kids.
I don't know about the rest of the band but I actually know the grandparents of the bass player. They are freaky backwoods rednecks here in RI/CT...he (Grandpa, that is) died a year or two ago and the locals called him Frenchie (brilliant...he was French..get it?) and he used to shoot at people on "his" pond...which he only owned part of. They had a creepy rickety "campground" that people actually paid to go to for a while..I dunno, maybe people got scurvy or something at it. It was the closest thing I've seen to Appalachia out here in Ol' New England. Anyways, G-Pa DID have loads of cash...he was crippled by a stroke a few years back but he used to sit and look over his financials and watch CNBC all day on this huge tv..in a house that looked like it would fall in in a stiff wind. Apparently he was on the board of the NYSE at one point but was booted off for improprieties.
And the Strokes connection just makes it wierder!!! :eek:

I agree, they are incredible live.
Nice...I'll check them out if they come to Providence. I've got one of their albums...Chutes Too Narrow, I think??

yeah that's there 2nd, latest, and best, in my opinion. When they recorded it I was living 3 blocks away from the studio, but I didn't know it at the time, or that there was even a studio.. :) To think that I could've dropped in unannounced and laid down some mean tamborine.

Wow, that's some weird s**t... well casablancas and hammond jr were rich kids at least, they first met in a european boarding school.
The bass player does look a little inbred.
