Why the yawn? Did you like the second album?
To be honest, i haven't given it a full listen. I am merely focusing on this album...I must have listened to it like 8 times and, not that it was horrible, but it wasn't like the greatest thing ever. I don't think it is this album that is going to/should make the Strokes kings of american rock as some have said.

It is a decent album but in the end should not be in anyone's top 10 come dec 06. of course, IMHO ;)

That brings up a good question. Just who are the kings of American rock right now? Green Day?

The Wrens!, wait that's my own parallel universe. I thought the White Stripes had a chance to be, but Get behind me satan was a dissapointment.

Regarding the Strokes, I thought the 2nd album was okay, mostly tuneful, but a very predictable rehash of their sound. Of the new stuff I've only borthered to listen to the single..

I'm not sure The Strokes were ever made for greatness... they've been victims of their own over hype and predictable backlash.

I thought I read somewhere that the Strokes were like the "punk/new wave" version of a boy band, literally put together by some guy much like the Backstreet Boys or NSync. Anyone know if there's any truth to that?

If they were pissed about rep whore threads, why not just delete those threads? Now i've got to try to come up with a bunch of insanely funny or insightful posts without the satisfaction of green nipples letting me know that i made someone "LOL". Life is so unfair. ;)

heh.

I think it has alot more to do with the Repping cliques that pretty much every forum on bigsoccer has, the Arsenal board very much not excluded. Therefore their reasoning was likely that if they wanted to get more new users they had to break up the elite setup... newbies can have it pretty harsh.

Overall I think it's a good thing, now people actually have to say something worth saying for people to pay attention to them- rather than rely on their 10 little green nipples and massive post count to add weight to their words. (Teso..)

Well, there's nothing inherently wrong with that, but I will agree that the hype was unbelievable.

If we're talking purely about popularity,(which we all know is not the best barometer of quality) who would the current kings of US rock be? Is it Green Day? I mean, I like them, but could list a bunch of US bands I think are more deserving. Like Ween, for starters. :D

based on sales, and BS awards like grammy's, yes it would be Green Day.

Yeah its pretty notorious for it. "Pint off Wife Beater" is a common name for it. I get like that on JDaniels or Gin...so I leave them well alone

Real cider - the type with lumps in - is pretty potent. As is Snakebite - half a lager, half a cider and blackcurrent. Most places won't serve it. The TBird does. Speaks volumes for the kind of establishment it is. 'Ard bar innit :D
Good Lord........Judy I don't even know what half the stuff in that is but sounds like it would certainly have me "praying to the porcelin God".... I am such a lightweight now that it is ridiculous...... ;)

I don't really have a problem with that. There are worse bands I can think of, Linkin Park comes to mind. As does Staind, and all those other bands that sound just like them.

Two current US based bands I find myself listening to a lot are Spoon & The Shins. Bready turned me on to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and I still love the White Stripes second album.

You know that whole "Desert Island Discs" thing? My buddy Steve has "Oh! Inverted World" on his list.

I got a live show of theirs from a year or so ago - great stuff. I wasn't able to catch them the last time they were in Philly, but won't miss them the next time.

EDIT - Dan, the new thread's yours to name.
