I think theres more to it then simple alcohol %'s.

For example I can't drink Fosters in volume for a session. Sure its weak as nats piss but it just bloats me out so much I just dont WANT more than 2-3 pints of the stuff.

Also - especially with bitter - certain beers induce different kinds of stupors for different people it seems. And for me Waggledance is pretty much "falling down water". Im fine on Stella and 1664 though - both of which are stronger.

Also bear in mind that the average bender for the average man in London probably consists of around 8-10 pints. Thats a lot of beer 5% or not. And thats for lightweights like Rick, TopCatCole and myself - do NOT try and out drink Surfcam.

Finally you mention 4% beer. Over Christmas my local started stocking a beer called C2. A 2% lager. Fairly horid taste BUT it does serve a unique purpose. I often find I get to a good level of delerium but the night is still young. However if I contuinue to drink at the same rate I just get violently ill. If I STOP drinking I get the "still awake hangover" and get violently ill. I've found that by switching to this stuff I can mantain my sozzled state without going over the top. Plus you dont notice the taste when your already four sheets to the wind.

I just wish id discovered that in November for Spurs Away. Perhaps then I wouldn't have ended up in Tottenham - half cut - at 1am - on Derby Day.

See, I've heard people say that Stella Artois make people violent. I've even noticed that it gets my aggro up.

Interesting idea... you'd never see something like that here. 'too girlie' would be the claims. I like the concept.

If you didn't already know anyone who drinks cider here is usually concidered a girl as well, where there it seems like the preferred method to obtain a real cheap drunk. Another Ace anyone? Ace price! 59p! Here that section of the convenience store (off license) would be full of malt liquor.

The only time I drink cider is when I have a "Poor Man's Velvet".

Yeah its pretty notorious for it. "Pint off Wife Beater" is a common name for it. I get like that on JDaniels or Gin...so I leave them well alone

Real cider - the type with lumps in - is pretty potent. As is Snakebite - half a lager, half a cider and blackcurrent. Most places won't serve it. The TBird does. Speaks volumes for the kind of establishment it is. 'Ard bar innit :D

I used to drink cider regularly - pints of "Red Witch". (Cider & blackcurrant with a shot of pernod in it). Certainly sorts the girls from the women;)

something I found on Wikipedia under Stella Artois .. interesting connection- though seems a bit of a guess. To be honest, as a brewer, i would have no idea whatsover you could do to a macro lager like stella to make it increase aggressive behavior more than any other macro lager.

Known as "wifebeater", possibly because of the famous scene in A Streetcar Named Desire (1951), in which after Marlon Brando's character's wife flees after he beats her, he pleads for her forgiveness by shouting "Stella!" This line and performance were notoriously mimicked in one of the most popular episodes of the TV show Seinfeld, as the beer began its ascent in popularity.

* This nickname is not due to its alcohol content, as most other premium Belgian beers are 7.5% alcohol by volume, or more (e.g. Duvel, Westmalle, Scaldis/Bush and Chimay).

You homebrew too? My buddy is a major homebrewer, and helped me make my first brew last March. Read all about it here:

http://www.foolcircle.net/brews/brew.php?id=84

I just moved into a house with a basement, so I'm looking to do my own brewing. First one, a "Grolsh" style beer called "Deike" that my roommate Debie is going to help with, thus the name. We're thinking the label will feature an image of a particualry butchy woman on a motorcycle while sticking her finger in a dam.

Very cool, thanks for the link.. I like the label too. There's a new brewing book out called 'Brew Like A Monk', i recommend you pick it up.

i didn't write it!

I'm only amused by people who get 'loopy' off a 5% beverage. ;)

I think when it comes down to it, alcohol makes people aggro. Enough of any thing should do the trick.

Alot of people call Budweiser "WifeBeater", and i've heard Bud Light called "WifeBeater Jr." To be honest, i've never noticed any difference in my behavior due to the influence of various liquors, but that might be because i'm too drunk to pay attention.

I used to think Gin made me nice and emotionally numb.. but I think it was just the amount I was drinking. There does seem to be something to a wine drunk though, but I've already contradicted myself enough.

I'm thinking the bud nickname is due to the white trash & working class associations of the beverage in question.

I've definitely noticed differences in my "drunks" as it were. Wine makes me feel all warm, while on beer I just get loud. Whiskey, tequila, vodka, etc. - forget it.

LOVE the title Antifan. Id rep that - but there is absoloutly NO point.

Ive had 7 hits in 2 days and still have ONE point. Not one Green Bar - ONE POINT. Its so broken.

I think you might be the first person to notice the title, it gave me a chuckle when i thought of it. Yeah, I'm not too happy about the "new and improved" Big soccer. I still don't get why they took away everyones rep? If they were pissed about rep whore threads, why not just delete those threads? Now i've got to try to come up with a bunch of insanely funny or insightful posts without the satisfaction of green nipples letting me know that i made someone "LOL". Life is so unfair. ;)

We could conduct an experiment in Madrid - every night you get drunk on a different liquor and someone scores you on say, ability to walk, retain power of speech, wit, wisdom, and levels of bon homie or aggression. Just need one sober person to make objective judgements.
