Now I know that most of you are going to say "who cares?", but he's one of the greats of '70s soul -- artistic descendent of Jackie Wilson, Marvin Gaye and Otis Redding, peer to guys like Isaac Hayes, Stevie Wonder, Barry White and Luther Vandross.

R.I.P.

He really was a great artist.

Oh sh!t.

Lou Rawls was the man. His live recordings are the coolest of the cool. He had these long stories he would tell in the most mack-daddy, hipster, jive talk (in the true sense of the word; (see "Airplane", Barbara Billingsly).

If I ever get my act together and get one of those USB turntables, one of the first album's I'll convert one of his that I've never found on CD (unless my brother swiped it. Note to self: check record collection tonight.)

"You Better Find Out What's Happenin' (Before You Find Me Gone)" is such funky song it boggles the mind.

Lou, this Bud's for you.
R.I.P.

As a kid, I saw him in concert. I was maybe 11, and my aunt and uncle took me to Lake Tahoe on vacation. He was playing there in one of the casinos.

That's not the specific one I had, but all these things are reissued so many times that I'll never remember the cover.
