So these three ministers sneak into the hearing room where Senate Judiciary Committee members will begin considering the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito on Monday to, emmmmmm..........apply oil to all the seats, pray for each of the 13 committee members by name. Needless to say they say they're not pro- or anti-Alito, just that as far as they believe, "God…is interested in what goes on." Link here. The original title of this thread was
And just when you thought the religious right couldn't get any crazier........

Anyway, it does sound like three 9 nine year olds breaking curfew. Yet these guys are leaders.........

Sorry (kinda) about the thread title change, but note the caveat about "iron fist". Hopefully the change won't appear nearly as jack-booted once I get the sticky posted about forum groundrules, etc.

To your article: It certainly does sound creepy, if not dangerous, to have folks skulking about the capitol without permission, going into chambers, etc. They must be some well-connected ministers to pull that off...

The hearing rooms aren't in the Capitol building, they are in a Senate Office building which is called...I forget....Hart or Dirksen.
They are public buildings and you can go in if you go through security. Most hearings are open to the public, although I'm not sure about what changed after 2001, and given how much interest there is in these confirmation hearings, there may not be any room left for the "public".

Pretty sure the confirmation hearings are in the Russell Building. At least they were when I worked on the Hill.

Sure, they'll be public. But any of the actual "public" that wants to get in.....better pretend they're getting those 1976 Aerosmith tickets and camp out.

It they were practitioners of Santeria anointing the chairs with chicken's blood, you can bet your sweet bippy they'd find themselves in jail.

hearing rooms typically aren't locked because "they're not of interest to anyone." Lt. Dominick Costa said

Another thought. "What's this greasy stuff on my seat? Anointing oil? Thank goodness, I thought it was ass-sweat from the last senator who sat here!"

The ACLU would get them off! (double entendre!)
