DEMAND FOR 2006 FIFA WORLD CUP TICKETS EXCEEDS U.S. SOCCER ALLOTMENT

No Public Sale for Tickets to Take Place in United States

CHICAGO (January 5, 2006) – U.S. Soccer announced Thursday that the demand for tickets for the 2006 FIFA World Cup during the ussoccerfan.com pre-sale has exceeded the organization’s ticket allocation and there will be no public sale in the United States for the world’s most popular sporting event.

A public sale had tentatively been scheduled for Friday, January 6 in the event the demand for tickets during the private sale did not exceed U.S. Soccer’s allotment.

Fans are encouraged to continue to check ussoccer.com for further information on how to be put on a public sale waiting list, should the situation change.

SPECIAL NOTE: Ticket orders for fans that participated in the private sale are being processed and applicants will be notified on or before January 14 as to their status. This will enable those applicants who do not receive tickets to participate in the third stage of the FIFA World Cup Ticket sale on line at fifaworldcup.com. For those fans taking part in the ussoccerfan.com pre-sale that will not be receiving tickets from U.S. Soccer’s ticket allotment, they will be placed on the priority waiting list based on when their order was submitted.

Glad to see the USSF get word out to us nervous fans. Now we at least know (1) there aren't enough tickets to cover all pre-sale applications, and (2) we'll be notified in time to enter the FIFA lottery if our applications are unsuccesful. Now they just need to live up to their word and inform fans on a timely basis. Good luck to us all.

This is great news. We all knew the number of people applying for tickets was going to be way more than the # of tix available considering no one could get through on the fax line all day on the 12th.

So at least we all know that we have a shot at the FIFA lottery before the 15th. I'm happy.

Any chance for tix is better than none.

I'm glad they finally got some information out to their customers.

Information to your clients is a good start and getting it done by the 14th is a requirement. I just hope that statement has more behiind it than the statement they were ready to handle the initial volume of requests/faxes.

BTW......here's another question I have been wondering about - If you are on USSF's waiting list, but then get tickets through FIFA, is there a way to get off the USSF waiting list so that you don't get into a 'conflict'? Purely hypothetical

As someone who missed the ussoccer lottery (and therefore has no chance at those tickets), I think the communication totally stinks -- checkout the website now (8 a.m. CST) and it still says there will be a public sale at 9 a.m. If not for this forum, I would be sitting bymy computer waiting (wasting tie) at 9. A web site update might be a good idea to go with the press release. Thanks to you guys for the link and the info.

Right on the home page of ussocer.com under "Headlines" is a link called 2006 FIFA World Cup Ticket Advisory with the public sale (or lack thereof) info.

Addidas based in Germany were giving away tickets for WC games a while back I heard that from a good source here in the US, but not anymore.

I'm hopeful someone at US Soccer could answer that question via email should the need arise. I wouldn't think they'd have a problem with taking someone off their waiting list should that applicant get tickets through Fifa.

Here's hoping US Soccer can honor their word and get ticket confirmations (or denials) out by Jan 14.

Apparently not, obviously. Are they going to wait until 1/14 at midnight?? This is craziness. They should be able to notify at least SOME PEOPLE now. What is the holdup????

aaagh I am going crazy also!

You know I checked the famous "confirmation" email and notice that is came in around 8pm on December 13th.

I'm expecting the ticket notification to be after hours as well, just a guess.

Well I can tell you that they are done allocating the tickets. My neighbor called USSF last night at 4:45 ct and that was all he could get out of them, save that we would know by the 14th.

Anytime someone says they'll do something by a certain date, they actually mean they'll do it on that date. I'm not expecting an email until Saturday. Come on, USSF. Prove me wrong.

I rest my case.

In the spirit of the USSF's "Official Policies and Procedures for Waiting Until the Last Possible Second to Do Anything, a.k.a. the OPPWULPSDA, I declare that I will die on or before my 105th birthday.
