It was there for the taking. I believe Blanc cost them the win because Chamakh was clearly ineffective on his own and they needed another target man in there to help but Blanc waiting too late to put him in after they got down 0-1. When you have Chelsea playing well below their standards you have to realize that and try to exploit that to the fullest and go for the kill and I dont think Blanc did that. Waiting until the 70th min to bring in Cavenaghi was not a good idea you do it at half time. They deserve credit for shutting Chelsea down and holding down Anelka except for that 1 mistake but offensive tactics were the problem I think.

ineffective? he was a monster! but yes, it was too much for one man. cavenaghi should have come on for gouffran earlier, perhaps even at halftime, but then again, one goal should have done it, and they got that. very good match from les marines; like that they can win in rome.

I think Blanc is a stubborn coach. He seems wedded to the 4-5-1 and he doesnt have to be because he has options. He doesnt seem to want to deviate from that and take any risks. I dont know why he refuses to play Chamakah with Cavenaghi or Bellion. They are only 6th in the league when clearly they are a top 3 team so something is not working obviously.

with the talent at their disposal. they should be at the place where they in the league. blanc should use the players he has to his advantage while he still has them.

I read that he did play 4-4-2 vs Sochaux but certain players were rested because of the Champions League. If they dont finish in the top 3 he could be gone. He might be gone regardless but I wouldnt bring him back if they dont finish in the top 3 regardless if they win in Rome.

Anyone know a good site to stream the match against Lyon tonight? I'm trying to watch from Texas, and unfortunately local cable providers just don't play much French football.
Thanks!

I started to watch French football a couple of months ago and I really
enjoy to wacth Bordeaux the only problem is that it seems to me that in
france football is not "important" compared to Spain or England-
therefore I hope that bordeaux win the french title since I doubt any french team is capable of wining the CL
until they change their mentally that is

Bordeaux have decent fans but there not as good as Marseille, PSG, Lyon, Nantes, Lens, St. Etienne's fans for example. They are still top 10 though. You must be talking about Laurent Blan's comments well he has a point but he's a guy who plays way too defensive and not too attack minded.

Well they won the league cup and thats a decent trophy but I guess Vannes gets the UEFA Cup spot now since Bordeaux will most likely be in the Champions League. Vannes in Europe ? Not a good idea.

I think quality wise there wasnt a huge gap between them and Roma, the team that edged them out in the Champions League. I mean Bordeaux went into Rome in that final group match knowing a win would advance them to the next round and the stupid manager plays a 4-5-1 and doesnt go all out attacking to win it. How do you not do that when its a win or go home game. I dont get it. The manager treats the UEFA Cup the past few years like garbage as well. He's a good defensive manager but his offensive tactics and decisions are horrible. This team has good enough talent and can be very effectining playing 4-4-2 all the time but Blanc doesnt do that. What happened to David Bellion this year ? He cant even get on the pitch.
Gouffran was a supposed important signing who's done nothing either. Chamakh wants to go to England but what big club is gonna pay big bucks for a forward who's got like 10 goals. Well see if they can get out of the group stages next year depending on who their opponents are and who on the team comes and goes.

This is what I was talking about in terms of quality-but should they get a more offensive coach- or stick with Blanc, since they are suceding right now and they won the Coupe de la Ligue and are 2nd

Yeah, losing offensively. Sounds like a plan.

i think this defensive approach and neglect of uefa cup is a french mentality thing. i mean PLG of PSG is the same, lyon coach same. domenech tactics with france national team nor exception. my be foreign coaches might change french football.
it mystifies me how 3rd producer and exporter of football talent in the world (behind brazil and argentina leagues) can't win european trophies, yet our counter parts in south america beat european heavy weights when they meet in fifa club world cups. are they better than us ?? i don't think so. but they have quality coaches with mentality to win every trophy. i would rather lose having gone all out than neglecting one tournament thinking of domestic league and not win that either. its the same stroy with french clubs, they fight their buts off allseason trying get in european spot only to forfeit it once they get there
i doubt monaco of 2004 had superior players than the ones in Bordeaux, marseille, or lyon right now. certainly not at the time. make no mistake they where talented but also what they had was coach willing to take risks and because of that it enabled to bring the best out of the players who eventually found success in other clubs. even though they lost on all fronts, at least they went all out and with dignity
oh well, i guess i'll go to youtube and watch monaco highlight in 2004. makes think of hope

I think French managers play too defensively in Europe because they are afraid of getting blown off the pitch by superior talented other teams. If Blanc goes to ManUtd. to replace Ferguson will he play more offensively because he'll have superior players ? Hmmm I'm not sure.

just a minute, did you catch barça-chelsea last night? it's not only french teams that clam up in european matches.

i always wanted Didier Deschamps to coach France or Lyon. when Puel was given the Lyon job i initially liked him but now i think he's too defensive and conservative. domenech is one of my least favorite coaches, period.
maybe its not too late for one of those teams to take him on board.
