I also speak some Italian, and it should be fun to try to talk to the Italian fans
Even though this is the German-language thread, perhaps you could post a few friendly insults here! Nothing in the "faccia la cazz" vein! or even this: http://www.spiked-online.com/Articles/00000002D458.htm
maybe http://italian.about.com/library/blflameform.htm?terms=binary+spam

It's my understanding that Italian and Spanish are very similar, so if you just yell sh/t at them in Spanish they'll understand most of it. My grandmother lived in Italy for several years and was able to get around perfectly using mostly Spanish (along with a little broken Italian and broken English).

Hi, I saw your post on the Yanks in Germany Yahoo board. Thanks for all of your help!

I plan on learning as much as possible in the short time before June, just to try to make it easier to get around, order foood etc.

I also speak some Italian, and it should be fun to try to talk to the Italian fans

I love learning foreign languages and discover new cultures. If I had not spoken english, I would have not been able to write here at bigsoccer or follow USMNT. Learning foreign languages have many many advantages. It is easier to do travelling if you speaks foreign languages. I always try to learn at least few words of the country I´m going to visit.

I also speak few languages myself.

YES I WAS

I was only in 3 cities: WASHINGTON, CHICAGO AND NYC

I liked mostly Chicago and NYC..

But I would like to do more travelling around USA - maybe NEw England, I have heard that it should be the best part of USA - Boston, Maine etc.

Maybe west coast San Francisco should be cool..

I still have not figured out if it is better to visit east or west coast...
both are great..

maybe someday I wish I could live and work there for few months or years..
as experience abroad - improving my english and collecting experience in different culture....maybe study is cool in the USA.

Entführung?

Yeah, hijack for sure.

Getting back on topic... I've gone through my 10 30-minute Pimsleur lessons, and I'm fairly satisfied. I'm planning on buying the next set, which is a bit more expensive. I listened to the lessons on the way to/from work. I wish I would have had something like this in high school and college.

Just started this myself. Most of it I still recall from HS, but I was happy with the first 2 lessons. The 30 minute classes fit in perfectly with my commute.

Which set are you using? I have the 6 CD set, but I have a feeling I'll need the 10-disk.

We're using the 6 CD set, which oddly teaches you to say "I understand no German" in German, thereby possibly confusing your new acquaintances.

West Coast Party Schools:

San Diego State
Chico State
Arizona State (not exactly on the coast, but close enough to mention)

While the LA basin as a whole can be ugly, parts are nice-think anything with a hill/mountain/ocean when you want "nice"....Anything on the beach from Newport Beach (the OC) south to San Diego is prime...also northwest of LA (Malibu, which includes Pepperdine U)....

You should also include Santa Barbara in your itinerary (UCSB)

What's the German word for "hijack"?

In this case, I would choose "kapern". As in "Das Mädchen aus Leverkusen ist dabei, den Thread zu kapern".

BTW, I assume everyone of you is familiar with LEO, the immeasurably useful and downright brilliant online German-English-German dictionary. Complete with immensely helpful fora and .wav-files for pronounciation. The eighth wonder of the world, truly, and one of the best websites there are:
