View Full Version : Blacklisted!

Man, I am so frustrated this morning. I just found out I got blacklisted at my favorite record store! I'm officially on their 'Do Not Buy From' list.
And I want to add, for the record, I'm completely innocent. Rasputin's, out here in the Bay Area ... you've turned on me.

But here's what sucks: I've spent so much time and money at this store it's crazy. I don't shop at Best Buy for music or movies ... I gladly spend the extra money to buy it there, to support the local record store. I spend HOURS flipping through their used CDS. When my friends come into town, we make special roadtrips to their Berkeley and San Francisco stores. I drive all the way down to their San Leandro store just to flip through their used stuff. When I make trips into their larger Berkeley and San Francisco stores I get lists emailed to me by my friends, so I buy stuff from them for people in other states. And they're blacklisting me?!? Evidently, I've been on the list since August. Which is odd, since I've sold stuff since then.

They say you can get on the list for selling large numbers of sealed CDs. NEVER sold a sealed CD. Or you can get on this list for selling multiple copies of the same CD. NEVER done that (why buy more than one?). And here was the kicker ... the manager said I could've been on the list because some of the stuff I was selling might have been in too good of condition. So I could be getting blacklisted for taking care of my CDs?

Of course, the guy I have to talk to in order to clear my name is off on Wednesday's.

But I feeling suckerpunched. Betrayed. Like a girl just broke up with me. I go out of my way to support this store -- and am ALWAYS honest -- and I get blacklisted.

Sorry for the rambling post. But it feels better to let it out.

That does indeed suck. Especially since you have to make the drive down.

But .... (and really, I'm with you on this -- that really sucks)

Based on little-to-nothing, I'm feeling pretty confident that you can clear that up if you have a face-to-face with the manager. Yes, it's a hassle. But I'd venture that most people they're trying to weed out would not take the time to go down and lie to the face of the person making these decisions.

And as someone who's had CDs ripped off, I have to say I'm glad they're at least paying attention.

Here's hoping you can clear that up with as little stress as possible.

Yeah, I'm quite hopeful that I can clear it up and that it was just a misunderstanding. After all, I'm an honest person and haven't done them wrong.
And I understand what they're trying to do in regards to stolen cds.

But still ..... it sucks.

Don't attribute to malice what can be explained by an oversight. I'm sure it's an honest mistake - those do happen from time to time.

Anyone who is an audiophile and visits the SF area, Rasputin's and Amoeba are two essential stops.

If I was you, I'd say screw them. If they won't take care of customers like you then they don't deserve your business. Good luck with whatever you do though man. :)

You gotta give them a chance to make it right.

People get so worked up. Let things play out.

Fooshinho was right.

I just talked to their head buyer this morning (he's been off) and he says he can't see any reason why I'm on the list. I went in with the attitude that it was just a misunderstanding and we cleared it up.
He said he would call the other stores and get me off the list (as long as the manager at my local store said there was no issues ... and he shouldn't because I already talked to him).

It was a gut-punch to be blacklisted at my favorite record store, but it was very reassuring to know that they care about honest customers and can admit their mistake.

sweeeeeet.
