Someone should ask the "better" team why they let VY just WALK into the end zone on the last Texas touchdown-um hello there were like 6 USC players standing around......poor showing by USC and some classy play by VY. And I could not believe that Leinart said that! But it could be that he was trying to give props to the team or something......or he is Mourinho's long lost son and just an unbelievably arrogant SOB....... :D

re: leinhart's comments - did you hear him confuse 'winning' and 'losing'? "even though we won...i mean lost..." :D

Hey, the man did offer his congrats to Texas and said they are the national champs. But just because VY is a man among boys doesn't mean UT is the end-all/be-all of teams. All I'm saying. :o All honors due to Texas for this year.

Yeah, Rebels is on my shelf, but I haven't read it yet. I looked at Soccer Explains The World at Borders - very interesting stuff.
Rebels for the Cause is a very good book. I'd put it third on my "must read Arsenal books" behind Fever pitch and The Glorious Game: Extra Time. I also liked the Official Arsenal Miscellany but its not really a book just a bunch of factoids. There was another ok Arsenal book that I'd recommend for people that want to relive the 03/04 season: Arsenal All 4-1.
How soccer explains the world is an ok read. It is one of the first football books I recommend to people just getting into soccer.
Others that I've liked:
The Story of the World Cup (A nice review of WCs up to 1990)
Soccer in Sun and Shadow (Best captures the beauty of the game)
The Miracle of Castel Di Sangro (nice little story of an American following a tiny Italian club punching above its weight in Serie B)
Brilliant Orange (interesting take on Dutch football, well written)
Ones I'm reading now:
The Far Corner (odd book that covers football history in ne england)
Football Against the Enemy (just started this one)
Ones that I'm waiting to read:
Passovotchka: Moscow Dynamo in Britain 1945
Barca: a people's passion
Futebol: soccer, the Brazilian way
The Glory Game (know thy enemy ;))
I got the idea to read most of the last group from a list in Four Four two. They had a nice list of the top 50 football books. Anyone ever read "The Art of Soccer"? How about "Kicking and Screaming: An Oral History of Football in England"?

GP, here is some important information for your upcoming trip to Europe:
Netherlands town cracks down on cannabis-selling coffee shops
MAASTRICHT, Netherlands (UPI) -- The town of Maastricht in the Netherlands, a popular venue for smokers from around the world, is about to crack down on its cannabis-selling coffee shops.
The city council plans to make it illegal to serve foreigners in the city's 16 coffee shops, which could drive many of them out of business, and also put a dent on Holland's famous liberal drug policy, Britain's Independent reports.
If courts uphold the decision, the policy could be extended nationwide, the report said.
The town is taking the step because of social problems the country's drug laws have created.
Acting on complaints from police, the council's new law, when approved, will require all those who visit coffee shops to show identity cards proving they are residents.
Most of the allegations against the coffee shops are false, says one client, adding: "You've heard about bar fights but no one's ever heard of a coffee shop fight."

agree. but the way the media hyped the trojans...especially here in LA, where they're viewed as the end-all/be-all, makes this sweeter for us anti-$C types.
besides, it was my Bruins that laid a whuppin on Ricky Williams' UT team in 1997 - 66-3 in Austin. :D

..."coffee shop fight"
That has got to be the most awesome phrase I've heard in a long time. Everytime I walk into a starbucks now, I am just going to imagine 2 guys throwing down their lattes and duking it out.
