I'm not sure, but my theory is they allocated a certain amount of tickets for each method of application (FAX, FED EX, USPS, etc). Why else would they bother making the distinction over that when they gave us our confirmation numbers?
That has always been my theory. That is why I went with the USPS. But who knows?
I would like word, one way or another :(

Also have to ask if his request included the checked box that he would accept other CAT tickets, also how many tickets were requested. Consider that Italy was the more in demand match, and that if he wanted more than two tickets per match he could not be bumped down to CAT IV even if he did choose to accept other CATs.

yes I did, as I picked CAT 2 seats, and got CAT 3 seats. Like i said, this process makes no sense to me. i hope I have better luck with FIFA hehehehe.

does anyone else have the bad feeling that they won't get an email confirming or denying today?
I love how this is going to screw up my changes with the FIFA lottery.

I wholeheartedly think that US Soccer will screw up our chances in the FIFA lottery. What in the world are we supposed to do? Our hands are tied at this point.

This was such a simple process:
1. Get word from FIFA on # of tix allocated to federation.
2. Designate # of tix for big dogs, sponsors, VIPS, and overall federation allotment.
3. Subtract #2 from #1
4. Receive applications from U.S. Soccer fans
5. Take #3 and start allocating tickets to fans on a first come-first served basis until said number hits 0.
6. Notify winners and losers.
WTF is wrong with them? Am I missing something here? I'm going to the gym and getting rid of some of this frustration and anger...and getting away from this comp for a little bit. I pray to God, Allah, Buddha and any other higher power that the USSF will get their sh1t together by the time I come back. Shame on them for wrecking this process and screwing fans. They need to be held accountable...the only way is for someone in the press to take this story and run with it, though.

Before I leave the internet (and my inbox) for a few hours (until I have to decide to wait for USSF email or say 'F it' and enter the FIFA lottery), I have one more thing to say
This has been an incredibly frustrating and more importantly, disappointing process. For all of us, we look forward to the WC immediately after the previous one. For four years, I get excited about making my plans to go to the next WC. It's basically the number one event in my life every 4 years. Trying to get tickets this time around has left me with a heavy heart. USSF basically started jerking us around from day 1 with the fax fiasco. Now we have a bunch of people (myself included), who have still not heard from USSF despite being promised that we would have by yesterday.
I feel like a kid who has just been told that Santa doesn't exist for the first time. That's the kind of disappointment I'm feeling right now, knowing that this world cup has basically all but passed me by... due to the blunders and lack of communication of the USSF. It's hard when you wear your heart on your sleeve, like all US supporters and have it trounced on by poor organization which could be avoided. I'm sad. I hope USSF understands how many people have been truely disappointed by them

If you do not hear from US Soccer by 5:30 CET today I would suggest you apply to the FIFA lottery and be sure to document all the steps you have taken to contact US Soccer today (emails/phone calls/etc). If you can show that you made a good faith effort to follow the rules I have a hard time believing anyone is gonna take your tix from you for duplicate applications.

If it helps, I ordered CAT 1 USA-Italy tickets and my confirmation was 8409 (USPS Express). I ended up with Cat IV tickets. So this match is probably out of reach, but as I understand, you have a better chance of winning the conditionals.

It's quite possble that this step took the longest. I can picture USSF negotiating with these groups to try and get as many tickets for the fans as possible. When people are getting freebies they obviously take as many as they can get.
Who knows when USSF had the final counts from them? Maybe it was Friday!

Which is stupid. They could have started that before the draw even happened and they should have wrapped it up fairly quickly following the draw. Look at other federations. Somehow they managed this process without screwing their fans. Even Australia who haven't been to a WC in decades managed to setup a logical process and complete it in time. There is simply no possible excuse for the way the USSF has acted.

Just some info I received today as an unsuccessful applicant to the Australian Federation
No of applicants 25296
No of successful applicants 1384
Applications opened one day after the US opened theirs. Successful applicants notified by 3rd January. Unsuccessful applicants not notified until now, although they made it plain that if you hadn't heard from them by the 3rd you missed out.

For everyone that didn't get tix, i feel for ya. US Soccer screwed this one in every way conceivable. If youa re still interested and haven't applied through FIFA or msised the FIFA deadline, FIFA's site says they will have a 4th sales phase in February or March sometime of returned tickets for people who can't go, or games that weren't sold out, ie: if their ticket allotments weren't used up, or if a federation didn't use up their tix. Not sure how many there will be, but may be worth the try. Sorrry, i don't have any more details. I honestly can't even find the article right now, so i am doing it off memory. I would just stay posted to FIFA's site. Good Luck.
