I've noticed that teams are starting to attempt to Europeanize their uniforms or badges ( LA, NY, Col) do you think the Revs should consider making any dramatic changes of their own? personally I feel the kits are fine , especially if the shadow striping is supposed to be gone this year. I think our badge could be more profesional looking, any suggestions?

My preference?
Traditional crest or shield with six points, one for each state in New England. Perhaps something similar in shape to Everton's crest:

It would also incorporate the St. George's Cross that is a fixture of the historical Flag of New England seen here:

That's a start...

i'd have to agree with the direction magpie is headed in with regards to the crest/badge. i've heard some of my friends/fellow season tix holders state the same.
as far as kits go....i'm sick of most teams having a white uni. i'd like to see the revs keep the blue and dump the white for something else. maybe a "silver" kit. i think there's too many reds out there already.

As far as away unis go, the Revs could have an away uniform of an all-red mirror of the all-blue they wore until 2002. When they play in Chicago, Dallas or New Jersey, they could wear a third version, all white (or even the blue). Everyone else would have no problems with us in red.
Also, visiting teams should wear their main jersey if possible. The blue teams would have to do something different like our red uniform, or even something along the lines of (gasp!) a white jersey but colored socks and shorts, which has always been illegal in MLS.
I like the badge idea. The flag thing only really works on a white background and having a white rectangle like the 1999 shirt just didn't work.
Now before someone calls me a Euro-litist, I'll say that I like the team name on the jersey and the sponsor on the back. We don't need to have Pepsi on the chest.

I've always had a soft spot for the colonial NE flag. This would be one of the few patch designs I would be happy with.

I like the more traditional crests, but most people jump all over you for being a Eurosnob for saying so.

I think the 6 points to represent the different states of New England is an intresting ideas as is incorporating the state flag. To tell you the truth I don't think the midnight riders logo saying Revolution under it instead would look half bad ( not gonna happen for obvious reasons) The kits themselves are fine. Look like a nicer version of Rangers. as for away kits maybe a reverse with the red and blue swapping places? Either way not as important as a more traditional badge, I just don;'t want to see us left behind and end up being the last team with an Americany sports logo whilst the other clubs adapt traditonal looking soccer badges.

Original logo works for me too. I think I am in good company.
When the Revs become MLS's true dynasty team, the modified flag will be an appropriate logo for America's club team.

Please, the current Revs logo should go with the old Metrostars one into the scrap heap.
It is a joke! I'm not calling for a Euro badge, or something like that.
I would like MLS to become much more professional, and in many ways presentable. I think the easiest way is to redesign many of these logos (almost the whole league except for DC and Chicago). Honestly, the Metros dropped the ball in regards to their redesign. Is it a massive improvement over the last badge? Of course it is. However, that just shows how childish the last one was. This one is mediocre at best.
I really like what Magpie is talking about. He is trying to incorporate local history into the design. That is crucial.
Nick, the GM of the Metros talked about some sort of phantom "soccer tradition" in New Jersey that he used in designing the new symbol of the team. What that is, and how it is incorporated, I don't know.
All I know, is that in keeping the current Revs logo, the league is held back.

Wow.
Reminds me of that commercial...
"...the power of cheese."
So if we just change the Revs logo all of MLS's woes will magically disappear. If that is what is at stake, then change it quick. We'll have 20 teams in the league by 2004, MLS on ABC every weekend, and $$ millions in the bank.
What are you standing around for? Get to work!!

No, it's about taking small steps to making the league look more presentable. This isn't even a perception thing. In general, the 9 of the 10 team designs that were created for MLS in '96 were a joke. I think the league should continue to cut more and more ties that it has with that era. The revolution's logo in my view is a relic of bad management. It is a relic of a league that wanted to look "cool" and modern. Screw that. The logo is trash. If it was in the Big 4, everyone would have ridiculed it from day 1.

Strong 'cheese' opinions. We all have them.
Mine is of the sort: 'Keep the logo'.
I've never, ever had a problem with it, and when I saw it amongst all the others for the first time, I found it more appealing to the eye than say, the Metro's and LA's.
Further, it has become a token of identity over the history of the league - and while I am not afraid of change, I question the trend in the league for teams to re-brand themselves (sometimes it's warranted). My hat has the logo. My lapel pin and other such stuff has the logo. Heck, my toddler daughter's sweatshirt has the logo... and I LIKE it. I'd rather not have it's current meaning* taken away. I actually have an emotional attachment.
But is change is going to ever happen, please let it be in the form of evolution of the design (keeping the basic elements of the flag and colors), rather than a scrap-heap and overhaul.
Kevin D.
* meaning of the logo: 'This has been a crap team from day one, and they are now an emerging powerhouse, dammit! And I've been there from day one!'

I've been waiting for the day when you can buy a Rev Team Logo patch to put on my jacket. I'm amazed that such is not available at the proshop. There cheep to fabricate, would sell well and be a good advertizement.
Any chance that the Riders could produce this themselves? I suspect there are reasons we can't.
I would love a Riders Jersey.

Given the direction this thread has taken, I'll ask the question here.
Who holds the copyright for the logo and the team name? Is it the Krafts, the league, both? Do the equipment suppliers get exclusive rights to use the logo for the term of their deal?
Understanding this might explain why not more logo gear gets produced.
Anyone out there know how it works?
