World Class Players are something the USA needs to become good.. They think still think Clint Mathis is the next "Pele" .... And they think Donovan is the next "Maradona" If these players were so called good.. They would be playing in top European clubs.. Not 2nd division... But the only thing the US NT has going for them is that the team has been playing together for soo much the coach is well established for a while now and they have good team stradegys.. But do they play good No. They still need World Class Players playing in the Italian , Spanish ,English leagues and with TOp teams.Lets face it the USA plays like England with less skill, and briliance and with no stars. Its like watching the Sub -17 English team when you watch the USA national team....

But the thing that sucks is that americans get more reconition when they do something good then when a Mexican does something good. And its more of a Big daddy factor England will always try to buy americans to help there little son..."USA"

Are players are struggling to get a team to buy them in europe . And the americans dont even need to try to get the attention of clubs of england...

Palencia - Did a well showing in the final of the Libertadores in SA .. Espanyol of Spain wont buy him

Blanco - Did well in the Libertadores also and also made a goal against Real Madrid. Valladolid of Spain wont buy him

lets talk about goalkeepers Oscar Perez has been doing well in the Liberatadores and in the National team. He doesnt get offers Casey Keller and etc have a job in England for WHAT? Playing in the MLS against weak competition its just not fair.

Claudio Reyna - What has he done to deserve to play in England!!

I think this is all just England trying to be nice to the USA ...When there is a Player of the USA playing in Spain,Italy etc then I would consider it being a World Class Star.

I think to classify someone as a World Class player you need fetch a transfer fee in excess of $10 Million. Who are Mexico's World Class players? I can only think of Marquez getting that much for a transfer if he was sold.

Last 6 matchs USA 5 Mexico 1
Aggregate score USA 10 Mexico 1
WCQ + WC 2nd round Aggregate score 4-1 USA

Are Mathis and Donovan the new Pele and Maradona? No, of course not. But Donovan had one more goal than any "World Class Player" Mexico had on the field.

Is the USA a soccer power? Not yet. But we are pretty comfortable filling our mid-level (but rising) niche and making el tri our proverbial red-headed stepchild.

Thanks for playing. Troll.

Yes it could be the Money but iam not going to base it on that I would base it on What achievements have they done in the international scene.. Playing in a top European team not includiing "England" because they just bring in americans to be nice ...

But the wierd thing is that the USA doesnt have any World Class Players. Only stars in the MLS league but that doesnt count.

US has multiple players in Germany, so the England=Sugar daddy thing won't fly. BTW, have you seen what a lot of english posters and media think of US and MLS soccer. You've got a really ridiculous argument. Anyway, the Bundesliga is elite(Champions League and Uefa Cup Finalists if I'm not mistaken)and we have players earn their way there.

never use "class" and "Mexican soccer player" in the same sentence.

Yeah .. But the thing is that we do but they are not given the reconition they deserve.....

Blanco - Played for Valladolid scored against Real Madrid

Torrado - Helped bring Tenerife to the First division of the Spanish league. And no plays for Sevilla for Spain

Palencia - Played in the final of the Libertadores against Boca Juniors "Riquelmes team" scoring a goal.

Marquez - Playing in the French team Monaco wanted by top italian teams.. But costs too much

Perez - Top GK for Cruz Azul in the libertadores stoped 2 of Figos penaltys against Real Madrid.. But they eventually lost that game.

These players have played with the top players of the world and have not done soo bad. Its just they are not given the reconition they deserve but Americans .... score one goal in the MLS and they are considered for REAL MADRID! Or score a goal in the World Cup and they are considered "PELE"

we have different standards for identifying World Class Players. We just have a higher Standard.

How can you rule out MLS players out of hand? MLS does not have Libertedores spots. Does this automatically make MLS players worse than MFL players? What accomplishments are you looking for? Things like O'Brien starting for Dutch League/Cup Champ Ajax? Casey (loaned from power Dortmund) and Cherundolo earning promotion to the Bundesliga with Hannover?

Friedel winning the League Cup with Blackburn and being chosen team MVP by the club fans is an accomplishment, not a gift. He also won a league championship with Galatasary in Turkey ages ago-although I'd have to check to be sure. Some thought his performance at the WC was world class.

Reyna was not gifted a spot in the EPL. He worked his way to a starting spot with Wolfsburg, then shined with Rangers before being bought at a substantial price to go EPL. Was it deserved? Ask the Mexican players he blew by in setting up McBrides goal.

PS-Sanneh, Gibbs, Hejduk, Casey, Cherundolo... Vanney, Onyewu, Regis in France..O'Brien and Stewart in Holland...Check Yanks Abroad forum. Could I please see a Tri Abroad list? BTW-I love Torrado. Seeing Donovan against him gave me faith that Landon's really a player.

Also-I was referring to the Mexico game specifically in the Donovan crack. 5 goals by MLS players ain't bad though. How'd MFL do?

Blanco - dirty player, over the hill

Torrado - where was he against the US

Palencia - no complaints other than the coach didn't even like his chances against the US

Marquez - great player - why play dirty on Cobi in the cup? wasn't necessary.

Perez - 3rd string to Friedel and Keller

Mexican class - play dirty if you are not good enough

LOL LMAO!!!!!!!!! OMG you guys need to accept you have nothing before you can improve The first step is to relize you dont have any stars.. The funny thing is that 2 of those players are GK..... Wow i guess the USA strength is there GKs :) and there in England and also is Reyna.. the only ones not in england are Sanneh and Brian ones a defender in that german team is like in 15th place.

John O'Brian is the only one that could be a World Class player but he doesnt play enough!!! He always has a injury or something . And plus he is playing in the Holland league not much competition there Ajax is a good team but the rest are crap. To be a good World Class pLYER you have to shine in a sucky team and not shine in a awsome team playing weak competition.. Plus obrian always gets subed out or subed in he never plays the whole game barely.

Clearly Mexico has dropped a peg or two in soccer over the last 8 years. It hasn't developed as many young talented players as it did in the 70s and early 80s. The USA on the other hand is steadily getting better and better. I think Mexico needs to reevaluate its system and figure out why its players don't succeed abroad. Other than Marquez the rest have failed.

For USA players, reyna, friedel, keller, sanneh, o'brien, and a few others have done relatively well in Europe.

Anyway mexico/usa has become a good rivelry and it will be fun to watch these two go at it for the next 8 years.

I think the world saw just about how much class Mexico could muster in the World Cup. The Mexican players you mention are always followed by "Libertadores" I don't think that the top European clubs care a whole lot on what a player does for a single game in which they showed something...whatever you would call it, rather, they would be much more impressed by a player that has continually showed that he can play well and has something to offer regularly day in and day out (with his club team) as in Claudio's case.
