U.F.S. Vanguard: are there any similar games currently available for the PC?

About six years ago (has it been that long already?), Red Storm Entertainment had announced plans for a game called U.F.S. Vanguard (http://www.redstorm.com/corporate/press/41.php). It was an awesome concept and a game I was completely looking forward to, only to be crushed upon hearing of its cancellation a few months later for reasons I've still never found out. :(

IGN.com has even kept its U.F.S. Vanguard page (http://pc.ign.com/objects/014/014301.html?fromint=1), which includes images and a preview (http://pc.ign.com/articles/134/134301p1.html?fromint=1). :)

Does anyone here remember hearing about this game and, if so, why it was cancelled? Is there any game out there (past or present) that has the same or similar concept? :confused:
