I know I'm an old fogey, but WTF was up with the music on the New Year's Eve shows? My head was spinning - a bloated Mariah Carey, an overrated Kanye West, a teen screecher in Hilary Duff. I even saw Styx on one show. Why do they pick NYE to showcase the worst in American music?

It's like the Superbowl. It keeps getting worse every year.

Reflection of the pop culture. Sure, Interpol and The Arcade Fire exist and sell records. But do they get airplay? It was a lot different 10 or 15 years ago.

And poor old Dick Clark. He can barely talk. Almost felt bad for him.

Was he being recorded live? We all thought his parts were pre-recorded and edited into the broadcast. Especially when he was (briefly) 10 seconds off during the countdown.

But in any case - why was he even on? This disaster is what people will remember him for.

Yeah, she's definitely still cute (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/59/Susanna_Hoffs_2003_Promo_Photo.jpg/586px-Susanna_Hoffs_2003_Promo_Photo.jpg) for her age!

Though it was bizarre to see a replacement for Michael Steele, who apparently had left The Bangles last April or May.
