Saw this movie at the late show last night.
I will say at first it seemed to be quite cliche (while visually beautiful, you can't go wrong with Wyoming mountain ranges) and never BAD, it turned very good and ended up being a real tear jerker.
I recommend it highly for anyone that can stomach some man2man action...and it should be REQUIRED viewing for anyone who can't.

It must be good if it's up for as many awards as it's nominated for. I'm assuming the m2m action was done tastefully (in the sense that it's not like softcore porn, haha)

It's a very good film, but perhaps a touch overrated. Very moving. But kinda predictable and even conventional. I'd take My Own Private Idaho over it any day of the week. Liked Ledger a lot.

What do you mean by man to man action?

What do you mean by man to man action?Kind of like Dyer and Bowyer, except they are naked and kissing instead of fighting.

I'm probably not the only one to hit the button on this one, so I apoligise. But it had to be said.

Cowboys Are My Weakness
By LARRY DAVID
Published: January 1, 2006
SOMEBODY had to write this, and it might as well be me. I haven't seen "Brokeback Mountain," nor do I have any intention of seeing it. In fact, cowboys would have to lasso me, drag me into the theater and tie me to the seat, and even then I would make every effort to close my eyes and cover my ears.
And I love gay people. Hey, I've got gay acquaintances. Good acquaintances, who know they can call me anytime if they had my phone number. I'm for gay marriage, gay divorce, gay this and gay that. I just don't want to watch two straight men, alone on the prairie, fall in love and kiss and hug and hold hands and whatnot. That's all. . . . .
The rest of the article (it's pretty short) here. (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/01/opinion/01david.html)
It's pretty standard Larry David / George Castanza fare, but it's still funny. I haven't seen the flick but I'd like too.

It's pretty good, not stupendous. Heath Ledger's great.
Here's the question my wife and I were discussing afterwards: is Ennis gay? Jack is almost certainly gay with his interest in other men and Mexican hustlers (and if you have no real interest in Anne Hathaway, you're 100% gay), while Ennis never makes a move toward any other man except Jack. Then again, Ennis isn't too interested in his wife Alma, either.

Heath Ledger is so great in it because he is actually bi-sexual just like many other actors in Hollywood. So this role was not that difficult for him to act out.

That's an interesting question. It could go either way. He seems pretty forced around women. But it's possible that Jack justgives him something emotionally that he doesn't receive anywhere else. But I would beton him being gay.
BTW, if I had to bet on the biggest box office star coming out of this film, I might well take the odds on Hathaway. Julia Roberts isn't getting any younger, and Hathaway is two kinds of stunning, with a large youth following from the Princess Diaries. I didn't have a clue who she was while watching, and I was surprised to find out afterward. She seems like fellow Disney queen Lindsay Lohan, but with pretty good acting talent.
My previous post may seem a little down on it. I'm not. It's a very good film.

I normally wouldn't go watch a romance between a man and a woman, so why should I go see it if it's a man and a man? Now, if it was a woman and a woman...
I do hear some girl (Hathaway?) shows her breasts in this movie, so if someone really wants to see it, but they are not secure enough in their masculinity to admit it, you can always use that factoid as an excuse. :D

Well, having a daughter in the Princess Diaries target audience, and having watched the first too many times, I can attest that she could be quite the comedic actress as well. She really does do physical comedy well.

Actually, it's Michelle Williams who bares her bosoms. Also quite the hottie, just not in this movie particularly.

She's not ugly, but to me she looks like a muppet, or one of those puppets from The Dark Crystal.

It is a sick admission of mine, but I have a knack for cumming up with good titles for porn flicks..
