From another thread:
I wish we had something more substantial to talk about.
Ask, and ye shall recieve, for there are few things more substantive than beer, especially where Milwaukee and, in general, Wisconsin are concerned. So let us chat away the next score or two months on the subject of Wisconsin beer.
To kick things off, here are a few items:
- Anyone been to the Old German Beer Hall yet (http://www.onmilwaukee.com/bars/articles/germanbeerhall.html)?
- We really do need to meet up for a Friday fish fry at Lakefront Brewery (http://www.lakefrontbrewery.com/) at some point. When I was in town for T-giving, I spent a few lovely hours at a place near the brewery called Trocadero (http://www.ztrocadero.com/index.htm) that had a LF "Belgian" brew called Fat Abby on tap that was just dee-lish.
- I never seem to be in town at the right time, but one of the beer fests I really want to attend is the Milwaukee Beer Fest (aka, The Blessing of the Bock, http://www.milwaukeebeerfest.com/info.html). Anyone planning on attending this year?
- I DO already have rooms reserved for next summer's Great Taste of the Midwest in Madison (http://www.mhtg.org/index.html) or, as I prefer to call it, the best feer festival in the US. Gotta love Madison. And that $50 I spent on a lifetime membership to the Union back in 1986 was one of the best investments I've ever made; that Rat's the center of my universe (doesn't hurt that beer selection has gotten a lot better in the past 20 years).
- Finally, Pyg, I took the kids to this German-themed holiday train display in downtown Columbus last weekend and noticed that one of the cars was for (drumroll please) Krombacher Pils (mit Fesquellwasser gebraut!). I thought of you. Okay, that wasn't exactly WI-related. I apologize.
- Sucks that Zur Krone closed.
- I'm off on this Belgian beer tour in March and will be lugging several bottles of New Glarus Belgian Red and Raspberry Tart with me as a sort of ice breaker. Too bad this glorious stuff isn't distributed outside of Wisconsin.
Prost!
