Also, there are other Mexican goalkeepers. Did anyone here watched the last America-Chivas game? That was a duel between Oswaldo Sanches and Adolfo Rios.

Hell, I'd bring Craig Forrest out of retirement before I'd select Perez.
Me too, he's obviously following the Clint Mathis all-grain diet. http://www.embargo.ca/log/group.jpg
There's still only one Craig Forrest

yeah im sorry but i simply cannot bring myself to even closely resemble an admirer of perez - he is small and he has too many brainfarts - has this annoying tendancy to give soft goals at the wrong time, for club and country - i guarantee that if cruz azul had any number of concacaf keepers in his place theyd have fared better in apertura - ill go so far as to say that 6-7 keepers in the region are his clear superior (to wit; friedel, keller, hirschfeld, hahnemann, howard, thornton, jordan and rios - pick your favorite 6)
in short (too late), anyone picking perez as first choice is homerifico indeed
and come on, anyone leaving mcbride off an XI + sub list is pure hatin - BMB may not be vieri, but he is class - BMB is alot like raul in the aspect that even when the goals are not there, he is still doing all the little things that help his teammates so well - and before im jumped for comparing BMB to raul, consider this:
he makes all the space clearing runs - he throws his body into any mix, often downright endangering himself - he flicks on like few others - he can influence the attack without ever firing a shot over 90 minutes - he holds brilliantly - he defends - he gets fouled often - his uniform gets dirty
that could apply to either of them couldnt it?

and somebody said 'what has ralston ever done for the nats?'
to this person i say what chance has ralston ever had to contribute to the nats?
before late 2002, he had played like 250 minutes tops - then he went two years without a cap while he was plaing the best ball of his career - hes clearly matured and i expect him to get a decent look and perform well during this cycle
btw, my short list of the players who inarguably SHOULD be a part of anyones XI if they want to have the best side possible:
marquez, reyna, torrado, o'brien
even if i may not agree with first choices, i accept that GK, most of the D and the attacking front are subject to individual taste - i mean lets all face it, any of us could have so much as a 3rd choice keeper and strike force available and be reasonably happy
for example, my 3rd choices at those positions
howard
borghetti & wanchope
still pretty damn good eh?

I would leave the same team except for Blanco. I think Donovan and Mcbride played great in the world cup as a duet. After his injury, Blanco is just not the same player.

I think the one who needs to take off his rose colored glasses is yourself. Your screen name gives you away. I'd say both Friedel and Keller are better than Perez but Perez is better than all of the goalkeepers in MLS. In case you missed it Perez was a big reason Cruz Azul made it to the finals of the Copa Libertadores.
I think that beside Friedel and Keller only Tim Howard Joe Cannon are clearly more skillful than Perez. But Perez is a great keeper and deserves a lot of respect.

Ancient history. Perez is the reason Cruz Azul got dumped out of the playoffs in the season that just ended (I get confused whether it is the Clausura or Apurtura in Mexico).
He also got Mexico in the WC with a key game in Costa Rica. If it weren't for him, Mexico wouldn't have gone thru. Perez was also key for Cruz Azul before that game all thru the season when their defense dissapeared after Almaguer went to Galatasaray and Melvin Brown turned to crap.

I am looking at play only in 2002.

my opinion on the all time concacaf team is that carlos castro and tony sanneh are alil underrated whenever they're mentioned... i mean cmon that was a fantastic cross to McBride for the 3-0 lead over Portugal, also the Concacaf stadium should be the Ricardo Saprissa Stadium, and thanks for the kind words about Martinez- but OBrien and Hedjuk should be getting some mention based on their '02 performances

Yeah but the whole performance in 2002 with Azul was in 2002 and those were more games except for that SINGLE game when he screw up and only really did on the 1st goal.

Are you insane! That crappy stadium? The Azteca holds more than 100,000 and the Rose Bowl more than 90,000 and are majestic stadiums instead of some little one like Saprissa. Plus the turf in them doesn't suck in important games like Saprissa did when they played the US.

i said Saprissa because that one, like any other stadium in Central America, would certainly be filled with real intimating fans, nice manmade earthquakes,, and about the turf sure it sucks but hey- no1 can control the weather

Azteca, definitley. If you were going to have an all- CONCACAF team, you'd want it in the center of the region. Besides, it's held 2 World Cup Finals and is the biggest stadium North of Rio.

Azteca is bigger than Maracana. It wasn't that way before but they have reduced the seating capacity in Rio.
