FC Basel has been hit with a one match closed door match due to the fan difficulties at the last Basel-Grasshopper match. They were also fined €10,270. Add that to the lost revenue of a sold out stadium and the concessions that would be included and that hurts. I am not sure how affective this tye of punishment, but anything that helps to prevent these types of actions is a positive by me. http://www.uefa.com/footballcentral/News/Kind=2/newsId=49689.html

As expected FC Basel has apealed their ban. I imagine next week the one-match ban will be upheld.

In an attempt to stop the behavior of their fans from going overboard, FC Basel is trying to develop a relationship with the supporters clubs. In essence, FC Basel wants to convince the supports clubs that poor behavior will no longer be tolerated. In my opinion, a good way to send a point is to ban the supporters club that violates the fan behavior policy for a match. Then they would take FC Basel more seriously.

LNA has changed their ruling, Basel will not have to play against Servette with closed doors. Only the supporters section where the Muttenzer-Kurve are will be empty. This seems fair to me, the people who caused the problem will be punished, while the rest of the supporters can watch the match.

This is a joke. Either you punish them or you don't. FC Basel got away easy...

Does the LNA get part of the gate recipts at league game? This could explain why the reversal. But it does set a very dangerous precident. The supporters section is closed, but it could be possible for them to move sections. Thus not helping at all.

Not as far as I know. Maybe it's just me, but I have the impression that since the whole CL euphoria, Basel can get away with a lot more.

Amen to that.
