Kirkland should go if he's fit - no place for Green.

You've included Ledley in midfield, which in fairness is the only place he'll get in the side, despite the fact he's a great defender - we have too many! But I would definitely take him!

The only other change I'd make is Scott Parker or Alan Smith for Hargreaves and maybe the extra defender, Luke Young for Jenas or Wright-Phillips!

I'd say that squad looks about right. Again i would leave Hargreaves out ,but for Nolan instead. And maybe Barton for Carrick

Smith will be on the 23 man

Hargreaves is actually a great player, but he's in an unlucky position because Bayern has several very good defensive central midfielders.

If he gets a bit more time to play, I would take him to the tournament.

I would take a few footballers over Hargreaves for the 23 man squad

How many central defensive midfielders which won the Championsleague at the age of 20 has England got?

That is completly irrelevant as to whether he should be picked for the England National team or not.

if scott parker isnt included then i think it will be very hard on the guy. some of his performances for newcastle this year have been incredible. he is the kinda player who would spread himself across a river to let his team mates use him as a bridge.

definatly in infront of hargreaves who apart from knowing germany better than his team mates, offers very little that england dont already have. decent pen agaist portugal though, owen!

I'd like to see Hargreaves given a shot at right or left back, he's played quite regularly there for Bayern, I believe, and surely if Konchesky gets 45 minutes against Argentina then Hargreaves deserves the same opportunity. Sven will take him anyways, though.

Hargreaves is best in defensive midfield and that's also where he played most of the matches for Bayern this season, but he's also able to play as left or right back (allthough I wouldn't use him there all the time).

As I said, I watched several games of Hargreaves for Bayern this season (he played ca. 50% of all games) and he did very well, but Demichelis has been that convincing in the season that far so it will be difficult to take his place in the starting 11.

Btw when was the last time Hargreaves got a real chance to prove his skill in the English NT? I know Eriksson sometimes puts him in in the 80 minute or so but that's not really an optimal occasion for a defensive midfielder to show his skill.

I agree with this list as probably most do except for a few changes:

Paul Robinson
Chris Kirkland
David James - included for experience only

Ashley Cole
Rio Ferdinand
Sol Campbell
John Terry
Gary Neville
Jamie Carragher
Ledley King

David Beckham
Shaun Wright-Phillips - starting for Chelsea or not there is nobody else to
match his speed for England.
Scott Parker
Michael Carrick
Frank Lampard
Joe Cole
Steven Gerrard
Owen Hargreaves
Philip Neville - has done a great job for Everton and has the experience

Michael Owen
Wayne Rooney
Jermain Defoe
Peter Crouch

Stanby
------------
Luke Young
Darren Bent
Stewart Downing
Wayne Bridge - why take someone who is not starting for their club when
healthy when we could use the help elsewhere?
Joey Barton - still a question
Jermaine Jenas - what does he bring to the table that Gerrard, Carrick
Hargreaves, Parker and even Beckham don't do better?
Kieron Dyer - I think I would play either of the Coles on the left first.
Robert Green - not yet ready I don't think
Alan Smith - not as a midfielder
Jonathan Woodgate - always hurt

Why is Gareth Barry never considered?

He's too slow. If he had any kind of pace would be a quality player.

Fair enough, hes often impressed me as a player but i've not seen him play that often. I just wondered why a good left footed English player would be so often ignored like he is.

I'm watching the Hull-Villa game just now and he does look slow!

I like the looks of those teams. But, how about Danny Murphy?
Tenacious, experienced and quickish, too. Maybe instead of P.Neville, Hargreaves or Carrick....

Murphy is primarily a right sided or attacking player, and he's not the quality of Becks or Lampard. He has something like 9 caps, but I believe they all came in his Liverpool days. He is a great penalty taker though.
