Over the past several weeks, I've had the opportunity to speak with both a high ranking CSA executive and a staffer from the Federal Government regarding the speculation that the funding of the new stadium might be in question if the Conservative Party should happen to form the next government of Canada.
Both have assured me that the funding is rock solid. It is there, it is in place. As far as funding is concerned, the "i's" are dotted and the "t's" crossed.
Thunderbirds are go! BTW, that wouldn't be a bad name for the team. ;-)

There is obviously some sort of agreement in place between the three levels of government, MLSE and the CSA given that the recent by law passed by the City of Toronto concerning the stadium's taxation status stated:-
http://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/bylaws/2005/law1038.pdf
WHEREAS City Council has previously authorized the entering into of certain agreements with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd., the Canadian Soccer Association and the Provincial and Federal governments for the funding, construction, management and use of a new soccer stadium at Exhibition Place intended for municipal purposes and public use during the term of the agreements and thereafter; and
plus
The Council of the City of Toronto HEREBY ENACTS as follows:
1. The agreement with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd., the Canadian Soccer Association and the Provincial and Federal governments respecting the provision of a soccer stadium to the City of Toronto as a municipal capital facility pursuant to subsection 110 of the Municipal Act, 2001 is hereby authorized.
Definitely looking good but there is probably still one more set of rubber stamps to be applied once a preferred construction bid is selected so I'm still highly eager to see shovels hitting the dirt and to listen to the formal announcement of an MLS franchise. Should all unfold within the next 6 weeks.
