Wasnt that a 0 x 0 game decided on PK's?
And what do you mean by Best?
As for me, Im not sure I would have to dig deep in my Memory banks...though it was nice to be at the Pele farewell game in 77 as a kid and remember it.

1982 World Cup - West Germany - France. Was a little kid watching it in Belgium. Still sits in me as the best game I've ever seen. :)

Can't believe no-one's mentioned the 1999 CL Final yet--Man Utd 2-1 BayernHow could we forget that one.
Guess we are getting psyched by the upcoming WC and tend to forget the clubteams. AC Milan vs Liverpool 3-3 Cl Final 2005 is another crazy match.

Sure it's very recent but the Milan v. Liverpool CL Final was unquestionably a very exciting match. One of the best I've seen I think.

Atletico Madrid 4-5 Barcelona, 1996-1997 Copa del Rey, I think. IIRC Atletico went up 4-1 (I think all of them were scored by Pantic), So Bobby Robson decided that there was nothing else to loose, and played it as if it were the 50's. He substituted defensive men with offensive ones, and Barcelona put on an incredible show in attack, to come back and win the game. Amazing. I really couldn't believe what I had just seen. I am no fan of those 2 teams at all, but that was a beautiful match.

Iran 2-2 Australia. This game qualified Iran for the '98 WC. This was the second lef of the WCQ playoff. The first game was a 1-1 tie in Tehran in front of 128,000 fans. The Aussies were ahead 2-0 after the 50th minute. The score didn't change until about 10 minutes to go. The Aussies were cruising. They should have perhaps been up by 5 at this point.
Then Iran scored a funny looking goal. It was 2-1. A 2-2 score would take Iran to the WC. And with about 5 minutes to go, Iran scored the tying goal on a breakaway. It was unblievable. The Aussies tried and tried, but the score remained 2-2 and Iran qualified. The ref (famous Sandor Pohl) did not blow his whistle until the 99th minute mark. The ref for the first leg blew his whistle at exactly 90:28!!!
This game remains the most exciting game I've ever watched. To this day the Aussies consider this game as their lowest point in their football (no disrespect meant). Congrats to the Aussies for making the '06 WC, I hope this qualification makes them forget about that game.

Club Games:
Man U v Bayern - (1999 CL Final) - Two late, late goals by Man U in a season where late goals were the done thing with Man U.
Arsenal v Man U - (1999 FA Cup Semi-Final replay) - A game that had everything: sending off, late penalty, saved penalty, and one of the most incredible goals I have ever had the honour of witnessing (Giggs).
Liverpool v Milan (2005 CL Final) - Liverpool were three nil down at half-time only to come back against Europe's strongest defence with three goals in seven minutes. Blink and you'll have missed it. What a game!
Tottenham v Man U (EPL, 2002-03) - Spurs were three goals up at the half, then Man U murdered them in the second half, scoring five. I heard some guy left the Lane at half-time and put a sh!tload of cash on Spurs winning (obviously for a small return). He lost all is money, but at the end of the day it was his own fault for supporting Spurs - ha ha ha.
Liverpool v Alaves (2001 UEFA Cup Final) - Liverpool won with a golden own goal, after the game was tied at 4-4. It was just an exciting game full of goals, exciting from the first minute to the last.
Internationals:
Germany 1 England 5 (2001 WCQ) - Germany had beaten us one-nil in our last game at Wembley - that hurt. It obviously hurt the England team too, and we beat the living crap out of a poor German side. I enjoyed every second of it. Nearly bought the DVD too.
England 2 Argentina 2 (1998 WC Second Round) - Two pennies that weren't pennies. A wonder goal from open play and a wonder goal from a set piece. Beckham getting sent off and Ince and Batty cocking up in the shoot-out, but probably the most emotional game of football up to that point in my life.
Argentina 0 England 1 (2002 WC Group Stage) - Okay, so maybe player for player, Argentina should have won this game but after losing to them on pennies four years previously, and the fact that they were laughing at our players from their team bus, this felt great. Add to this the fact that Beckham scored the penalty and had come full circle after four years of being ridiculed then being idolised, it was an important result, because I hate Argentina very, very much. I don't hate their people - just their footballers and anyone who supports them.
Italy 0 England 0 (1997 WCQ Match) - I was just sh!t scared that we were going to lose and have to face the play-offs. Ian Wright hit the post in the last few minutes and Vieri missed a header from a yard out just afterwards. Once the referee had blown the final whistle I remember jumping up and down like a possessed clown for the following hour. C'mon England!
England 3 Argentina 2 (2005 Friendly, Geneva) - A good match for the neutral and a good match for the England fan. Hey, a good match for the Argentina fans until the last few minutes. I had a feeling throughout this match (even both times we were losing) that we could beat them. I never normally have that feeling (not even against a crap team like Wales), but against one of the best teams in the world, I honestly thought that we could win it.....and we did.....and how. Mind you, taking Riquleme off was what did it.
