Johnny Damon has lost all respect ive ever had for him and i speek as a Sox fan and many others feel this way it would be different if he went somewhre like arizona just for the money, but he went to the yanks which is a cardinal sin and all i can say is I hope i have tickets for the 1st game when he comes back to boston because hes going to get booed so bad.
I certainly understand and feel similarly toward Tom Glavine. But to some extent, I think the venom toward Damon is a bit misplaced. It's not like he was a lifelong Red Sox player. He was a Royal and an A first.

So do you hate Glavine yoss? I know the way he left wasn't exactly the way a fan dreams it up, but he still had many years of great service for the Braves. I would have a hard time disliking him, except when he would be pitching against my team.
I don't see how a Red Sox fan could hate Damon. He helped them win a world series. He should be remembered as a legend in Boston.

I just like to assume there's no loyalty left in sports. Damon went for the money, but also to play for a good team. There's certainly some validity to him saying that they're dismantling the championship team. If he should go to any team in the AL, why shouldn't it be the Yanks? They've won the division how many years in a row? They're always in the thick of things in the playoffs even though they've gone 4 years without a title. So why not go to a winner and get paid more at the same time? When Damon decided to sign that contract, I'm pretty sure "Oh boy, I'm going from the Sox to the Yanks! I can't do that!" wasn't on his mind. All he could see was $12 million extra dollars and the chance to play for one of the top teams in baseball. If he signed $12 million to play for the Royals, then I'd understand why you'd rip on him. But basically he did what anyone else would've done.
And for the record, I hate the Yankees with a passion.

I wouldn't say I hate Glavine.....but let's just say I lost a bit of respect for him.
Let's compare his situation with that of Greg Maddux. When Maddux became a free agent two seasons ago, the Braves just weren't going to offer Maddux anything close to what he was worth....even as old as he was. For that reason, he left and signed with the Cubs. I was disappointed but I understood it.
Glavine, on the other hand, was offered a contract by the Braves that wasn't significantly less than what the Mets offered.....yet for all his talk about being a lifelong Brave.....he took the Mets offer and left.
I understand that significantly more money trumps loyalty for today's athletes.....but I was foolish enough with Glavine to believe that loyalty would win out when the financial terms between the two contracts weren't that far apart. I was wrong.

yeah i agree with that except for the fact damon was praising the sox, and was the emotional leader of 04 with the whole idiots thing and people praised the groud he walked on and called him jesus. People worshiped this guy and he left over a couple million dollars to a place where he wont be treated the same way. I think he'll regret this move in a few yeras.
