Hate to mention something discussed 10 pages ago, but anyway...Did any of you Phish folks attend Big Cypress NYE 2000? That was my last show, and I have brought it up in conversation during every NYE since. Just wondering.

GP, I am in Lynch-vegas. I attended UVA. I know, I know. BTW, I don't exhaust my vitriol on the Commonwealth tackle football rivalry. I save it for those in blue and white from west London and up Seven Sisters Rd., and a few other clubs that really piss me off for no apparent reason.

don't think the 'Dam is in my plans. i'd rather just chill in london and go to a lower league match on tuesday night. and you are correct, no B'ham away. I'm leaving on the 3rd.

Jim has not responed to any of my emails or text messages about how much he is willing ot pay on airfare and hotel.

In mourning today, athletically speaking. Work has proved an ample, if unattractive, distraction. (Sorry to abandon our mantra, Phishy - Can't afford myself idle hands today.) Simply logging on to wish everyone a Happy New Beers. Be safe enough that ya'll show up again next week, ya hear?

Did the Jackets really "give up" as the AJC and Utes players are suggesting?

Sadly, yes. (Note: Credit to Utah for playing well and deserving the win.) It was Tech's worst post season loss and the most points the defense has given up since '03. I've said all along that I can handle losing to truly better teams and don't expect 10-1 every year. That being said, yesterday's outing was pathetic. So much so that I've already sent in the following letter:

12-29-05

Mr. David Braine, Athletic Director
Mr. Chan Gailey, Head Football Coach
Mr. John Tenuta, Defensive Coordinator
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football

This letter is to voice my displeasure with the Georgia Tech football program. After watching this evening’s appalling display I have concluded that there is no viable spirit or dedication within the program’s leadership worthy of my support.

In the past I have fully supported Georgia Tech and the athletic programs not because of the programs’ on-field success but because of my strong belief in the merits of the institution and all those involved with Georgia Tech. Yet recent trends find the football players taking the field distracted, disinterested or, worse, disheartened. Too often has Tech faltered not because of the qualities within their opponents but because of their own doing. So often, in fact, that it can only be indicative of faults within the leadership and their ability to prepare the team. In other words, “It’s the coaching, stupid.”

That these are but young men who are students first (as it should be) and that Georgia Tech is a very challenging institution should not be a complete hindrance to achieving on field success. Many other institutions of similar or higher caliber are able to perform more competitively including Notre Dame, Boston College, California, Northwestern and others. Moreover it is not a matter of wins and losses but rather the ability of these other teams to consistently execute at a high enough level that failure only occurs when their opponent is truly better. Recently the Eagles of Boston College marched into their bowl game with every secondary factor against them, yet they played a smart and solid game plan that recalled the fact they did indeed have the better program. Georgia Tech not only floundered in their bowl game they did so miserably, reminding viewers that for every notable victory from the past few seasons Tech has also endured 1 - 2 sufferable defeats to lesser programs.

I can accept that given the state of collegiate athletics and the conditions at other institutions that it may in fact be difficult for Georgia Tech to perennially compete for top national honors. However, there is a notable difference between realizing mediocrity and accepting it as the norm: There is no reason why Tech should not be trying to compete for national honors! Failing to even aspire to rise above mediocrity is a disservice to the fans and, more importantly, to the players. Seeing as the coaching can barely sustain mediocrity, I must conclude it is incapable of leading the program to the next level.

I will continue to proudly support Georgia Tech in all of her other ventures and pray that for the sake of the players the program will achieve better success as early as possible. I also do not doubt the sincerity of your efforts and/or your affinity for Georgia Tech. However I cannot in good conscience support your leadership of the program so long as the status quo is considered satisfactory. Therefore I will no longer be attending any football games, buying merchandise or otherwise actively supporting Georgia Tech football until I’m convinced the leadership is stronger and so deserving.

My heart simply cannot take it.
