Trying to get rid of gilberto. Flamini has had a better season and has been called up to the France NT side(as oppose to the U-21).
Also have a load of players who are coming on free during the summer. Now to get ballack to sign with me.
Not very good on FM. Many People Dislike him. Get a better Midfilder.

Really. Flamini couldn't get any playing time with me, got very unhappy, and I finally pawned him off on West Ham for a pittance. That was in my first or second year of the game. Now in my fifth year I just noticed he's leaving West Ham for Barnsley or some such club.

It's interesting to see how players develop differently in different careers/games. For me, Flamini has turned out to be a solid player. I bought Karel Geraerts from Standard and he became Hlebs' partner in the middle while Flamini partnered Cesc. I also bought a defensive midfielder from Zimbabwe name Nengomashe from Kaizer Chiefs to provide me with depth there. Gilberto left the picture with a torn a knee ligament early in the season then followed by a dislocated shoulder when he was playing reserve games to try to recover.

He just won player of the year in England and Sendros won young player of the year.
Got rid of Gilberto. Ballack and Ne Jong resigned with Bayern and Ajax. GGGGGGRRRRRRR!
Tony Adams thinks I'm a hit at Arsenal. :)
Lost the Prem on goal difference, but won the FA and Carling Cup. Last by 1 goal to bayern in CL semis.
Now titme to get back to work and strengthen the squad.

I just fired up the patch and almost instantly my season with Man Utd and Mexico practically imploded. About a billion injuries in the last fortnight and then my potential Mexican pool of players was cut to 14 just before the Confederations Cup. Happy times! :)

Arsenal is one of my favorite clubs to manage.
My first priority in FM05 was to completely start over on defense, and improve the central midfield positions. I sold Edu, Gilberto, Kolo, Cygan, Freddy, and Pires right off the bat. Picked up Jankulovski, Kompany, von Bommel, Le Tallec, and just for insurance at right back I picked up Spector (decent, cheap signing). I had a ton of money my second year and picked up Fernando Torres and Jerome Rothen. Now we're killing teams, but unfortunately Chelsea has lost one game in two years (to us). Rotten trash. Right off the bat they signed Ballack, Roskicky, and d'Allesandro. So they play a five man midfield with those three, Lampard, and Cole. Sweet Jesus.
By the way, I always hold onto a borderline player and see if I can make him a star. I've held onto Pennant and play him a lot, and of course sold Bentley and Hoyte. Pennant has been playing very well in the third season and is a fixture on the right for England.

Cesar Delgado
Luis Armanto Perea
Freddy Guarin
Jankulovski
And if i have money to waste either cassano or totti. Liverpool once got relegated and i swooped in for gerrard and luis garcia.

Curious as to how the rest of you playing Arsenal are doing with UEFA's "homegrown" requirements for European competition. I didn't pay much attention to it when it first came in, and I let a lot of young players move on where they could get more playing time. So now, in the 2010-2011 season, here are the homegrown players I have registered for the CL:
Senderos
Clichy
Fabregas
Djourou (subsequently let out on loan)
Steve Lowe -- age 17
Richard Moran -- 17
John Piper -- 18
Lee Taylor -- 17
None of the youngsters (including Djourou, if I hadn't let him go on loan) have a prayer of appearing in the CL (or in any senior competition) unless the first team is in an airplane crash, but I had to stick 'em on the roster to meet the requirements. I'm thinking about starting a new game, still with Arsenal, where I concentrate on developing young talent, and signing young English players, just to see what happens.

this thread inspired me to start a new season in FM 2005 because I don't have 2006 yet. I'm first in the league, knocked out of the Carling Cup by Blackburn, in the CL knockout stages against Rangers, and in the 4th Rd FA Cup against Charlton.
I sold Edu (before season) and Freddie (January). I bought Zanetti and Scott Parker. both have fit in very well. I'd like to get SWP to replace Freddie, but City won't sell. It's a good thing they are in the drop zone by like 10 points in my game so if they go down I'm going to swoop for SWP.

He had to, to meet the homegrown player requirements.
I invest alot in staff and make my youth players train hard, so they increase in their ability quicker. Usually, within a year or two, I have about 6 or 7 of my players under 20 years of age.

I have to say, I was rather surprised to find Dennis Bergkamp starting up front at the Bernabeu when I played against Arsenal in the CL quarterfinals.

Yeah, that's the point. And what you describe is exactly the type of game I may start next. I usually don't like managing top level clubs, so I'm a bit surprised to find myself delaying starting an LLM game in FM06, but I'll get to it someday.

So I have to ask....
Does Chelsea have the equivalent of two or three full squads on their wage bill?

Yes and then some.
CL home grown? I completely forgot about that rule so I have decided to ignore it until Sepp Blabber comes out nd complains to me.

Cannon? Whats the Highest and Lowest you've got for Jar if you can remember. Just so I know how much I should be getting for himBack from vacation so just seeing this now...
It has been a few months since my last Arsenal game. I'm just now getting bored of my Notts County squad so I might be off on my memories of exact fees I got. I think the last time I sold JAR fairly early (either in the first winter window or after just 1 season) and got in the mid 30m pounds range for him to one of the big Spanish clubs. The previous game I held on to him for longer (maybe 3 seasons), he had some long term injuries, and was starting to lose time to other players so I let him got for a bit less, something in the 20m range. I don't usually like to spend much money so the difference between those kind of figures really doesn't matter much to me. Plus, I never play Arsenal for more than 3-4 seasons.
JAR was a good but not great player for me in the last game. He gets great ratings, chiped in with about 10 goals a season but doesn't get as many assists or MOM as I'd expect for his quality in the game. There are plenty of better, cheaper options for his position.
Chelsea can be odd in FM. In some games they use their cash to build unbeatable squads but in others they just act more like R.Madrid and get big names with limited futures and don't end up with a sensible formation. They sometimes start selling key guys like Cech or Lampard and fail to replace them correctly. However, I still enjoyed beating an insane Chelski team to win the FA Cup with Wolves (while still in the coke league) a few games back. They had spent another couple of hundred million and had an attacking force of Adriano, Ronaldinho, etc. I didn't have a guy worth more than 3-5m on my squad. If only the game simulated Jose's comments following that one... :D
