did anyone see cassano's(roma) penalty in the uefa cup a couple weeks back?

If a player did that for my country at the world cup I'd make sure he never took another shot in his life.

Heidi Klum?

Actually, she's still probably a better bet than Beckham.

Matt Le Tissier. I heard he was great at taking penalties at Southampton. Ronald Koeman deserves a mention as well.

I'm moving this thread because it no longer appears to be about the '06 World Cup.

My first thought when I read the thread title! ;)

Back in the late 70s there was this one player from Fortuna Dusseldorf named Gerd Zimmerman. He was a defender, but he always took the club's penalties and free kicks near the box.
He never did a run up - two steps and BANG - and yet he had one of the most powerful kicks I've ever seen. On par with Koeman and Roberto Carlos, if not moreso. In one Bundesliga match I can recall, his penalty kick hit the underside of the bar and you could literally see the crossbar bend for a split second. I shudder to think how powerful his kicks would've been had he done a six or seven step run up.

If I was on the opposing team, I'd pick Baggio.

Interestingly enough, Baggio holds the record for goals scored
on penalties in Serie A; he notched about 60 of them.

Even at the World Cup, Baggio was 3 for 4 on pks: he made his
vs. Argentina at Italia '90, scored a winning pk vs. Nigeria in '94,
and later, at, France '98, made the first pk in the QF shoot-out.

Baggio is actually a good choice, though I know you mean him
sarcastically.
